'twas ever thus, though. Italy seems to love that type of fastman that can win those Po Valley one-day races and in flat stages in second tier and minor WT races, but is found out in more or less any race with genuine climbing. Quaranta, Furlan, Napolitano, Guardini, Pelucchi, Mareczko, just to name a few... I mean, people would mock Kenny van Hummel's climbing for his 2009 Tour exploits, but Furlan had long missed the time cut before Kenny was gone.

I'd include Cipo, but his problem was more that he couldn't be bothered than that he couldn't climb.

Quaranta was always more of a track guy and he's now also a track coach at Colpack (he worked with Ganna, Lamon and Consonni in the past), his Son is also a sprinter in the u23 ranks.
The big problem is that all the Italian u23 races for sprinter are pretty much flat crits, so the one dimensional specialists can pick up lots of wins without having to adapt/work on their weaknesses. The rude awakening comes once they have turned pro.

He's not an Ex-MTBer, he is still active there and will remain so. At least thats what he said all year.
Showed his potential last month

Ineos vs UAE they have signed whole peloton.

Signing Padun is quite embarrassing.

Ineos signed Viviani, Fraile (and maybe Padun). the rest are young riders

some teams signed bigger names than Ineos. check BORA: Bennett, Archbold, Hindley, Mullen, Higuita, Vlasov, Van Poppel.

embarassing? ah for twitter sor sure. that's the perfect signing for twitter banter. I like it

You have to wonder if Bike Exchange has pivoted it's goals when you have climbers Chaves, Nieve and Zeits leaving the team because they were not offered contracts.
Yet they didn't replace them with other climbers and kept Yates.

Seriously, they have let a lot of good riders go and haven't replaced them, especially on the women's team. They need to hit the ground running next year or it's going to be even worse than last year.
