The Most Devastating Attack

we still have at least 2 months of boredom so i decided to start a new thread.the most devastating attack you have ever seen in professional cycling.it doesn't need to be a winner move.but a move that made you explode while sitting on the armchair or live on the race route.

my first 3 picks:
frank vandenbroucke-avila:that's pure poetry.
vino-alpe d'huez 2003:i think his speed when he attacked was 40 km/h or something
armstrong-sestrieres 1999:impressive

and a recent one:
cancellara-e3 prijs harelbeke 2010:insane stuff

The greatest clean performance in cycling?

Phil Gilbert's 2009 Lombardy week. 3 awesome kicks.

Its what "Wonder Lance" has as his signature.

The words are "the greatest clean performance in cycling". If you click on the words you get a link to a video of Lance Armstrong on Sestrieres. Its comedy genius because everyone knows shat Lance Armstrong was on then.

Cancellara hitting the jets when Tommeke was at the back of the group at Roubaix.

Devastating. Lethal. Awesome.

Best attack? For the few seconds it lasted, you mean?

Well yeah and mostly the couple minutes after he got back on his bike, which wasn't really an attack but still

This year alone? Other posters are going back in time... so:

1998 Tour Stage 15 - PANTANI over the Galibier in bad weather conditions putting Ullrich at such a deficit poor Jan could not make up the difference in the 20km ITT that followed later.

2006 Tour Stage ?? - LANDIS... oops that one didn't count.

In the line of Cancellara's monster display at Compiegne:

Those two "attacks" are the two most astonishing stage finish performances I have ever seen.

About Cancellara's one there's little left to be said.

Valverde's one, as much as I'm not the guy's biggest fan, is equally impressive. Valverde is to short uphill finishes what Cancellara is to TTs: a force of nature. Consider that in that stage he absolutely demolished the reigning winner of the Fleche Wallonne, he flew past him as if Kirchen was not moving, along with other top-notch uphill finishers like Gilbert, Evans, Riccò, F. Schleck or Freire.

Cancellara in stage 3 of TDF 2007. Attacks like that are just...not supposed to be possible!

I agree on this one.

Also, first win of Sastre on Giro2009 (if I am not mistaken), I remember I was screaming in my room when he went away.

Too young to remember Pantani, I know only what I saw on youtube.

And every win of Gilbert in past two three years.:D

this year Cancellara. Dont know which one was more impressive. Probably rvv when he got a huge gap in no time.

Contador on Verbier.

I think both E3 Price and P-R was more impressive than that.

Most impressive attack I've seen? Frank Vandenbroucke's attacks at LBL(or at the Vuelta). Going on climbs with his gears on the "buitenblad"(don't know the english word) on climbs were no one would just to show off. And they still couldn't follow him. Then after the climb he just waited for them to come back on to drop them again on a later climb. Easily the best race of this decade. Easily. He humiliated Bartoli as if he was just an amateur cyclist. That's how huge the differences were. He even said before the race started where he would attack. And he did as he promised.

Even filled up with double the epo Lance is on that's beyond imagination.

Perhaps the most talented cyclist since Fausto Coppi or Merckx. What a waste. And even if they were in the race on their prime day he would've destroyed them that day.
