Munich final was Cobolli in 2 where he played great and Zverev badly but I doubt that counts for much

Meh. Walkover semi, a retirement in the QF and no real extended matches since the QFs.

Zverev is probably gonna win and I'll honestly take Pogacar winning the TdF with 9 stages over Zverev winning and all the commentators glazing the domestic ab user who kept testing negative for any likeable traits even before the allegations came out.

That's not to say that I don't think tennis is in a dire state, either - not just because Zverev won, but all the injuries, the 2-week masters and Sinner's invincibility take a lot of the fun away.

Easiest draw Zverev will likely see at a GS. All it took was all the guys that are better than him (and not just those ranked above him) to either lose early or not being there in the first place.

Zverev has been an incredibly consistent number 3 in the world since the forever at this point. Whilst people were dunking on him for being a loser, he was doing the opposite of Medvedev and Tsitsipas, i.e. instead of exploding mentally he just kept on grinding tournaments and points whilst treating tennis like xp farming in an rpg. I seem to remember reading somewhere that last year - even when he was playing poorly - he accumulated more matches and tournaments than most.

Rafael Nadal nabbed a few slams as a result of good draws because of seeding and circumstances, and this one is no different. The rest is just 'perception' based on whether people like or dislike the player.

Medvedev won his slam when he was 25, crushing Djokovic in the final in New York in 2021. He also made the 2019 USO final, 2022 AO final, 2023 USO final, 2024 AO final…
