There are enough allies in the race for Remco. If I was him, just counter Pogacar, and don't take over. There's no reason for Remco to ride with Pogacar to the finish line, he'll lose the sprint, and Evenepoel already won the WC. Play it more tactically. Pogacar has the choice to keep riding or to slow down and let other people come back. Of which I'm sure MVDP will be one. Then there's still a chance Evenepoel is able to attack and ride away from that group, unless Pogacar shuts everything down, but then he's riding with MVDP to the finish line.
MVDP has also won the WC.

You mentioned Remco had won, so I just mentioned the other competitor.
Alright, well Alaphilippe is also riding, he also won 2 WC titles. The whole list can be found here:

You give Remco far too much credit for tactical savvy. Pog and Remco both have too much pride to do anything but ride hard to the finish and let the legs decide.

Let's say Pogacar attacks, and just for your sake he has a gap of 10s on the top. Evenepoel is solo behind him, and closes the gap since he's the better rouleur. So it's just the two of them.

At that moment there is more than enough room to play tactically.
You're already not being tactical enough. If I'm Remco in this situation, and I can tell that I will make the catch, I intentionally don't quite make the catch. I let Pog think he has me on the ropes and then turn on the rocket boosters in the last 2km. Why even give Pog a chance to draft me and recharge for the sprint?

True, I'm no expert in such scenarios. There are so many things you can do. Maybe Remco believes he has a bigger chance if everyone comes back together and he does a late attack on the flat.

I think Remco being a better rouleur is not a very sure assumption. Being better on flat TT doesn’t necessarily translate to being a better rouleur - it could only mean that on a TT bike his CdA advantage outweighs Pog’s absolute power surplus. However, put them both on a road bike where CdA is bigger for both, it may not be so anymore. I don’t think we have an example of Remco out-rouleuring Pog but I’m open to be corrected.

He closed a gap to Pogi and Vingegaard in the Tour, and that same Tour he came 2nd and gained back time after his shitty descent of Galibier

The advantage of an aero rider is bigger on a road bike than on a TT bike. Evenepoel is the better rouleur.

That’s not true at all. We can’t know if Remco benefits more from TT position than Pog. It is true though that if their CdA is bigger by the same percentage on a road bike compared to TT bike, the advantage of Remco would be even bigger…

But to take a step back, I’ll admit I’m arguing details here. It’s likely that Remco is a better rouleur than Pog… I just wouldn’t go as far as to state it as a fact because it was never confirmed.
