well there is a difference in paying someone 5mil who is 35? at the start of the contract...or paying someone insane money but is 24.5 million Froome?
Maybe it was worth it for brand exposure, although his brand isn't what it used to be. I would need proper comparisons of other riders to know if Evenepoel is being overpaid at 10M5 million Froome?
Apparently Ralph Denk wont be getting a Xmas card from Lefevere but what's happening with QS supposedly going kaboom! (from last year) and the OneCycling hoopla? He is old so he wants to buy the only rider able and available to give him big wins in the future. Jonas and Tadej have long contracts.
If Bora doesn't buy Remco, they aren't competing for anything in the future. WVA and Jonas will not leave Visma, MVP has a long contract with Alpecin, Tadej the same with UAE. So only Remco is available and they are paying big money (in fact they are overpaying) desperately to have him. In my opinion, a smart move from a rich team.
For Remco this is good too, he would be better surrounded in Bora.
I'm sure Denk is just exaggerating the $10 million a year for Remco. In my opinion, if Remco could equal the sprint wins of either Kooij or DeLie or Phillipsen in a given season + if he could easily win 2 GTs back-to-back + if he could win at least 3 monuments within a year, then he is worth $10 million + bonus. But as long as Pogi and Vingo are still around racing against Remco, then Denk should better use his money for his favorite charity.$10 million a year + Klaas Lodewyck? Ralph Denk must have no faith in Roglic whatsoever.
They have no other choice, they need someone like Evenepoel since Pogi and Vingegaard are already signed to other teams. Which means Evenepoel can do what he wants, and Bora needs to pay the big bucks.I'm sure Denk is just exaggerating the $10 million a year for Remco. It's not transactional, but transfagmagorical.Personally I have a hard time finding a more miserable way to look at achievements as something transactional
Apparently it was 4 million per year + bonuses. So, Remco was apparently offered 10 million per year by Bora. Everything has gotten way out of proportion, even if that's not true. Pretty soon they'll arive at football scales, for something as dumb as suffering like a dog on a bike, however beautiful.
Why is 10M too much? It's more that others should also earn moreSo, Remco was apparently offered 10 million per year by Bora. Everything has gotten way out of proportion, even if that's not true. I think, generally speaking, we live in a misguided world in which athletes get paid millions and millions a year, while teachers get barely a living wage. Why is 10M too much? It's more that others should also earn more
I can confirm that.I think, generally speaking, we live in a misguided world in which athletes get paid millions and millions a year, while teachers get barely living wage.
This! Entertainment > Education. Keep the people entertained, cheering for the home team and wearing stupid hats, they won't even notice that some 2700 individuals out of a world population of 8,100,000,000 have all the wealth.I think, generally speaking, we live in a misguided world in which athletes get paid millions and millions a year, while teachers get barely a living wage.

Should teachers earn more, yes, although depends a bit on the country, but the role of teachers is hugely important. But this isn’t a special talent that no one else can do. Evenepoel is one of the best in the world at something, combined with that being an entertainment sport which’s a whole business around it. This he earns more. It’s just capitalism.I think, generally speaking, we live in a misguided world in which athletes get paid millions and millions a year, while teachers get barely a living wage.
Oh I think being a really excellent teacher requires a hell of a lot of talent. To be world class in anything does, but not everything generates high market value the way sport does. Yet education serves society more than sport entertainment. The problem is that the discrepancy between what athletes now earn and so many useful and necessary low-income occupations has become obscene and indicative of the perverse system that the markets have generated.Should teachers earn more, yes, although depends a bit on the country, but the role of teachers is hugely important. Yes Bora. It's "cheaper" to buy out Evenepoel out of his contract compared to Pogacar and Vingegaard. Also those two are less likely to change teams because they have an amazing environment and great teammates, while SOQ isn't at that level. I think Evenepoel from the start made the mistake to make his father his manager, and secondly to sign a contract for so long. Has a lot to do with his arrogance when he was younger thinking he would roll up everyone and wouldn't need the same environment as a Visma could give him.Just to be clear; "They" meaning Bora?
Strange that they obviously couldn't go for Pogacar or Vingegaard - for reasons stated above - but apparently could go after Evenepoel, even though he's also signed to another team.
Yeah, Lefevere might be controversial, but I can definitely understand his annoyance with people's inability to accept that...

Didn't Evenepoel sign his first contract cause Lefevre team rode/rides with specialized. And signed his current extention after Lombardi crash? Pretty sure he was happy with that contract then, not knowing how he'd comeback after that, and getting top dollar from the team. (at least given what the team could afford). I think you're correct. He had plenty of fan support as well. I'm not sure that would translate into the same benefits to be an overpaid Tour designate on another team, particularly if he wasn't successful. I don't remember how it went down anymore. But Lombardia was 2020, I find it weird that you sign a 5 year contract in general.Didn't Evenepoel sign his first contract cause Lefevre team rode/rides with specialized.
