Dear posters, Today I saw a great film, "The Triplets of Belleville", which is loosely based on a boy whose dream is to ride the Tour de France, gets caught up by some criminals and is rescued by his Grandma, dog and the Triplets of Belleville.

Crazy story, but beautifully animated and very symbolic. Great for a cycling fan!

Beautiful film indeed. He also has a new film out, L'Illusioniste, based on a story written by Jacques Tati.

And reworked for a Scottish/Edinburgh setting. Quite strange, seeing that one here in Edinburgh, when it premièred at the Film Festival. Beautifullay drawn, as usual.

If you enjoy animation and cycling, Nasu: Summer in Andalusia is worth checking out too.

Agree, Nasu is another gread animated cycling flick. I think it better overall than Triplets which kinda got boring after he got kidnapped.

The growing up scenes were AWESOME though.

It is not exactly a new film

A Belgian / French Canadian collaboration. iT does drag a bit in places and if you are not a cyclist.... I don't know. The sound track, on the other hand is wonderful and has won some kind of awards. I bought the CD

I like to believe that Chomet imbued his riders with a bit of everyone. Anquetil, Coppi, even Merckx's sideburns.

I saw Chomet's segment in the ensemble movie Paris Je t'Aime, the rest of which is mostly fluff by (sorry) American directors in love with the idea of Paris in the same way that, in Love Actually, Richard Curtis shows us a London I have never seen.

Lot of folks said the Chomet bit (mostly live action with a bit of graphics) was riper than tartiflette but I thought it was lovely.

Decide for yourself!

My daughter and I just sat and watched that (husband retired, sloshed). Cracking little film, very quirky. The daughter is raving about it. Can't believe that there was a thread on here about it.

BTW its marketed here in the UK as Belleville Rendezvous.

Catchy Song

The infectious title song was, I believe, nominated for an Academy Award. The animation is mainly by hand, which is quite unusual in today's world, with some computer work in the dream sequences. And I loved the 2CV gangster limos!

I really enjoyed that movie. Agreed, it dragged a bit at times. Hope to see it again.
BTW, isn't it? = n'est-ce pas?
(One of my father's buddies said "N'est-ce pas" so often and so fast, he was nicknamed NESSA.)

"Nasu: Summer in Andalusia" is awesome, I love the attention to detail on the team kits and equipment. Bit strange though, watching the fans be so Spanish while speaking in Japanese. Definitely the most accurate portrayal of race dynamics I've seen in a film, a great, 'Pro-cycling 101" class for non-cycle sport fans.

And " La Triplets de Belleville" is one of my all time favourite feature length films. I love the grandma and her whistle.
