Nice course, and always fun to see the new talents battling against each other.

Is this race a replacement for the GiroBio?

No. The Baby Giro is scheduled for June (08-17) and the big battleground for the italian teams. Here in Toscana it's a Nations Cup race with just a italian national team. Which will be hard to beat.

The Frenchies are coming with Barguil and Domont, both with decent form recently. The US team (Berry, Warbasse, Durtschi, Eaton, Magner, Newbury) is quite good, too. Belarus' Stanislau Bazhkou was quite impressive in the last races in Italy, so he might be a contender, too. But I haven't found a start list, yet. :(

i didn't know Amaro Antunes had gotten such a nice result last year.

the portuguese team will probably be:

Amaro Antunes (Carmim-Prio-Tavira)
Fábio Silvestre (Leopard-Trek),
Luís Afonso e Pedro Paulinho (Liberty Seguros/Feira/Specialized)
Rafael Reis (Caja Rural)
Ricardo Ferreira (UC Maia/Bicicletas Andrade)

so the Rafael Reis world domination era is about to start. . . guys we have our winner :p

Good start by the Italian team

With their team here they should dominate every stage. By far the best.

1° Enrico Barbin (Italia) 3h53’21”
2° Alexey Lutsenko (Kazakhistan)
3° Jan Tratnik (Slovenia) a 4”
4° Youcef Reguigui (Uci Team) a 9”
5° Matvey Zubov (Russia) a 10”
6° Emils Liepins (Lettonia)
7° Jay McCarthy (Australia)
8° Oliver Hofstetter (Svizzera)
9° Jan Sokol (Austria)
10° Sergey Pomoshnikov (Russia)

Seems like only four of the breakaway made it.

stage 2:

1. Youcef Reguigui ALG
2. Sean de Bie BEL
3. Alexey Lutsenko KAZ

Finally Reguigui. Great talent, I hope he'll make it to Europe on day (Europcar!). The big guns like Jungels, Cattaneo, Barguil were on attack today, but without success.

Looks like a crash happened just before the finish line:

Jay McCarthy won the 4th stage. Patrick Schelling 2nd, Michael Valgren Andersen 3rd (winner of LBL u23). Fabio Aru (will be in Astana from 1st August) still leads. Carlos Verona and Fredrik Galta were almost a minute ahead at 10kms to go but there was an ascent on last few kms. Verona was caught 400meters from the finish. Aru finished 8th. Dont know what happened to Cattaneo but he DNF. Also Barguil DNF but he crashed on the sprint of stage two.

Very late on RS 2 last night.
Nice weather!
Fred Galta rode solo at the head of affairs for well over 20kms.
Break caught with more like 250 metres to go, I'd say.

Same weather for today's strade bianche would be good.
