Tour de France Tour de France 2024 route rumours and announcements

A long, hard mountain stage, followed by a copy + paste of the usual short, ultimate stage of Paris - Nice. It really isn't that hard. It was there for the taking and they blew it, in typical ASO fashion.
The last time a GT ended with a point-to-point stage as opposed to a TT or a circuit stage is... probably far longer ago than the last time the Tour finished with a TT, and a Quatre Chemins circuit would lap half the peloton. That leaves the point-to-point stage or the TT, and I'm skeptical on the city of Nice being open to the former regardless of what ASO wanted (which, tbf, might also have been the TT).

Either way, stage 20 should still be great unless they do something stupid like a Turini MTF. In which case this final weekend will be the biggest waste in ASO history.

Imagine the scenario:

A French rider - possibly Gaudu, or Martin - has yellow heading into the final stage, and then... loses it to an Anglo-guy by just a few seconds! It that happens, I think they might just about write it into official French law that the TdF must never end with an ITT.

Lol, Gaudu or Martin will never have the yellow jersey that late in the race....

Would much rather see a BIG mountain stage on stage 20, then a Paris-Nice similar stage on stage 21. No ITT.

But at least they should REALLY take advantage of this opportunity for a very big Mercantour mountain stage on stage 20. Including several of the high altitude passes there. Especially Bonette an Cayolle.

It could be biiig mountain stage 19, PN 20 and decent length (2nd or 3rd) TT 21. I'd take that.

This would be a proper stage 19 or 20 in 2024.
