Tour de France 2025 route rumours and announcements

Lefevre already said Remco is doing the giro next year
I think what Patrick said is that Remco might attempt both the Giro and the Tour. I think he said they even considered it for this year but with the Olympics being in July they focused on one peak during that month.

I think what Pog's double has done is make it possible for everyone to play the "well we might do the double card so let's see what kind of route you give us".

I am a Remco fan but obviously they're not designing a Tour route around Remco's needs. In fact I don't think this crew is ever going to give Remco what he probably wants/needs (long individual time trials, punchy climbs). They simply don't like long individual time trials. Especially in a contract year, the best thing for Remco is probably to go to the Giro, win a second grand tour, rather than get another distant 3rd in the Tour.

Remco is under contract for 2 more years

We need to wait a month to get the full route? I am not too excited about this... for what I am reading here, this will be a very backloaded race
And MTF-dependent (not that this isn't typical for the Tour). With Sestriere/Findstre seemingly out, it seems like all the mountain stages will be about the MTF.
Unless we see good medium mountain stages this is shaping to be rather disappointing route.

The typical “easy” solution when there is a dominating force in the race:
- backload the route to keep it tight as long as possible, believing that will create more tension in the race
- don’t make too hard stages, let them fight it out on the last climb (also more friendly for the casual fans just watching the last 15-30 minutes)
- come up with sometimhing stupid to hype as the big deal, when it’s basically irrelevant for the outcome of the race (grid start, bonus seconds on random hills or climbs or…. a short TTT)

[[content deleted]] Of course it has to be "Netflix" friendly as well. Lights! Action! Drama!:)

That sort of route worked fine to keep it close in the marginal gains Sky era but it doesn't take much for Pog or Jonas to put 5 minutes into everyone.

Mur de Bretagne is also out, are they really going to do 6-7 sprints in the first 9 stages? This is shaping up to be a 2012-tier disasterclass of a route...

Gouvenou said that he was disappointed in the sprint stages and would not put not so many stages in future tours. However, for 2025 maybe that was to late?

We can hope for some surprises maybe? Gravel in stage 7 or 8?? Rouen with a hilly final maybe. A very demanding Mont-Dore stage on day 10.

Also wasn't Govenou talking how they were gonna do fewer flat stages?

I am already ready for "Jeez Red Rick why are you so negative about this route you're always negative"

Also, 2012 had more than a few punchy stages at the beginning, the main problem was that the main mountain stages were just god tier awful.
