Even with some headwind I believe Mayo's record is going to fall.

Pogacar to go well above 6.5 w/kg and put close to a minute into Vingegaard. Being a unipuerto stage, I also expect Roglic to do well.

Sad that Van der Poel had to abandon, it will be a more boring Tour without him.

Genuine question, when was the last time we've had a good green jersey battle in the third week? I cannot recall a single one but this is the second time I can remember where there was gonna be one but then one of the candidates abandons.

In other words, why can't we have nice things?
2020 maybe, it wasn't really close but Sagan was putting up a fight and didn't they try to OTL Bennett at some point?
Before that, none of the Sagan years was good so it would probably be the Cavendish-Hushovd one.

But green jersey is just a lame competition almost by design. I understand the prestige but it's essentially never a real source of drama or entertainment.

To me the KOM has fallen off worse, cause now it's way too often 1 climber trying to win it from breakaways versus the GC winner accidentally winning it.

...a cold worsened over Monday's rest day, and Van der Poel was taken to hospital in Narbonne as a result. ..."Mathieu had been experiencing symptoms of a common cold over the past few days. Yesterday afternoon, his condition began to worsen significantly. The team doctor monitored him closely throughout the day. By the evening, Mathieu developed a fever and was taken to the ‘Centre Hospitalier de Narbonne’ for further examinations."
Pogi has already mentioned about lots of sniffles in the peloton (including himself). Chicken soup in the bidons!:)

Bini's going to win green again, isn't he?

Sorry to hear that about Matthieu. Pneumonia sucks.

Onto today's stage, unless Pog has pneumonia, too, I don't see any problems for him. It's a unipuerto so at worst all he has to do is follow Jonas then jump him at the end, especially if they use that last little ramp to the observatory or whatever it is. If it's a headwind we will likely just see an attritional climb rather than someone purposely sticking their nose in the wind.

I think UAE will drill the last climb for as long as possible in order to set up a Pogacar attack. Will any of the GC top 10 be brave enough to try and attack off the front of the UAE doms pace because that is the only way I can see any outcome other than a Pogacar victory other than the very unlikely scenario where the early breakaway succeeds. But someone should at least try and see if UAE reacts.

If we get the predictable outcome of UAE drilling followed by Pogacar solo attack and victory then it will be a huge let down. But unfortunately I still think this is the most likely outcome.

PCS took the sign off the van and put it on a pole instead! :D:D
