Vote yes if you:
live November, December and January thinking at le Tour
plan your summer hollyday only after last Thursday of October
think this week is the best of all year (expectation)
think that Tour route presentation is something bigger than Vuelta - the race
named your kid after a France mountain ( actually, I think that's just me)
put your car numbers ** ** TDF ( me again)
got your wife/gf etc into it
etc
etc
etc

Let's be honest, cycling exists because of this, cyclingnews.com exists because of this, and now we have only 4 days to wait. Out of 343. Happiness is all around.

lol 3-nil at the moment. I take the point about the Tour being the major source of finance for cycling, but at the moment I get more excited about the Giro. The Tour hype can be too much sometimes, the TT bias and the tour-centrism of some riders for whom the Tour is the start and end of the season.

But I applaud the enthusiasm in the OP, it's fun.

I came to being a person interested in cycling through the Tour, but as soon as you discover that there is much more in pro road cycling, the Tour becomes a race like all the others.

The feeling the thread creator has in this week before the Tour, I normally have in the week before L´Ouverture Marseillaise end January (Tour Down Under and San Luis are too far away, being European).

Best week is end January, worst week the third of October, after Lombardia (which is now in September, however).

I have other things than cycling in my mind in those months.
I don't really do much in my summer holiday anyway.
I can think of several other weeks which are better.
I don't even care about route presentations.
I don't have children, and I'm not sure that's even legal.
I don't have a car, customized number plates cost too much anyway.
I am single (and straigt too).

Yep, this is a great posing opportunity.

The reality is the Tour is the benchmark for the best GC rider, and its the one easy opportunity to speak to non-fans about cycling.

Vuelta this year ;)

Typical cyling year:

Oh! It's Paris-Nice! Yeah, best time of the year!
Oh! It's the classic season! Yeah, best time of the year!
Oh! It's the Giro! Yeah, best time of the year!
Oh! It's the Tour de France! Yeah, best time of the year!
Oh! It's the Vuelta! Yeah, best time of the year!
Oh! It's the World Champs! Yeah, best time of the year!
Oh! It's the autumn classics! Yeah, best time of the year!
Oh! It's november already? Yeah, not long until the next season starts!

But, I have to admit. As much as I love the classics and as exciting the Giro is, I can't deny that the Tour is something very very special.

This sums it up pretty well. My only addition is 'Oh it's January a new year a new season, can't wait for the first races'. This week is quite boring actually.

I voted yes but not as extreme as the first posters says.

I enjoy the Tour a lot, watch every stage. Love the atmosphere. That's it, and that's why I voted yes. Not as extreme as the author, but oh well :p

I really like the classics, very special atmosphere and history. Plus have huge respect for the riders who excel at them.

Not really fussed about the Giro and less so about the Vuelta. The problem is with those races is, like the tour, they go on for ages in sporting terms but very rarely are any key protagonists at them actually competing for the win. And if they are, see AC in 2011, then they smoke everybody.

I actually prefer week long stage races, PN, Dauphine etc to those grand tours.

But the Tour itself, come on, its the only race. No other race comes close in my book.

Until about 5 years ago I didn't actually know what pro cyclists do for the rest of the year, thought this was the only race. Which, with some riders in mind, is true.

I love ALL the GTs. Giro being a fave because I adore the crazy Italians, the scenery and plus it's first GT of the year - the long drink of water after the drought of winter.

The primary reason I prefer Vuelta/Giro, however, is coverage - for the TdF I'm stuck with Vs. which I find almost intolerable. All the ads, the extremely boring fluff pieces, and the commentary make it difficult to watch.

Each GT is like a 3-week soap opera for me. I fall completely down the rabbit hole every time. And love it.
