They already knew that. With Mathieu you never know, he can be absolute crap the week before and then dominate, and today he wasn't crap. He wasn't great either though. He had all the trouble in the world following Hirschi, and Hirschi is no Pogacar.

Great win by Vansevenant. Formolo got a little cocky there...
My thought exactly. If anything, if his form today is anything to go by, this stage showed that Van der Poel isn't winning Worlds this year.

In fairness to Van der Poel, today had steeper climbs and a finale with a higher climb density than Worlds. I think the Worlds course difficulty is way overrated because of some exaggerated vertical meter number, there’s no climb longer than five minutes and few steep ramps.
I agree with that. In my opinion the Worlds circuit is comparable, if not slightly easier, to Montreal. If we use the (stupid) meters per kilometer climbing metric, Montreal is tougher.

I think a DSQ is harsh for Formolo. Just give him a 30-second penalty, that seems fair to me. Like with Roglic in the Vuelta
But now that Formolo didn‘t sit on his saddle in the Tour de Luxembourg, hundreds of children will have lifechanging injuries because they will want to emulate Formolo and will crash horribly because they won‘t sit on their saddle.

It's almost like having to tell the parents their kids won't be performing well when they first hit the beam in women's gymnastics, or they won't get it right when throwing the javelin for the first time, right?

1.3.008 The rider shall normally assume a sitting position on the bicycle. This position requires
that the only points of support are the following: the feet on the pedals, the hands on the
handlebars and the seat on the saddle.

2.2.025 Riders must observe the standard position as defined by article 1.3.008. Sitting on the
bicycle’s top tube is prohibited. Furthermore, using the forearms as a point of support on
the handlebar is prohibited except in time trials.

No requirement for his backside to be on the saddle: we've all watched climbs and sprints. The issue is his chest as weight-bearing.

Tbf the jury in Luxemburg has been very strict for the whole race. Lots of fines for inappropriate behavior.

So it's not out of the blue but actually fits their line of immediately sanctioning inappropriate behavior!
Noted, and thank you for the warning.

But I still need to see the specific rule where on the saddle you are supposed to position yourself when you are a pro.

I cited the rule two posts above yours.

It is not about whether your backside is on the saddle, nor what part of it is, but what part of the bike is supporting your weight through what part of your body: Handlebars (hands only, not forearms except in TT, not chest as Formolo seemed to do here), pedals (feet, obviously) and saddle( what the UCI refers to as 'seat', thus outlawing the superman position).

brother what, obviously he won't follow all moves and Vansevant and Formolo went quite early. VDP had no teammates, he gambled on UAE to solve his problems.

He stayed with Hirschi apart from a small moment on the final climb, and dropped all other contenders. With some reputated climbers here like Gaudu and Kelderman. If anything he showed strong form.

Weird conclusions being drawn here

He did look weaker than Hirschi. Which is not a shame but Hirschi is 23/1 to win the worldchampionship.

Right now who do you think has a bigger chance To win the worlds', Hirschi or VdP?
