No map necessary, I think.

nothing majorly selective for GC both up and down

But maybe 3855 meters of climbing will play a part and it won't be a Sagan win

thats good,so are these boys going to make it? ('semi'-sprinters);)

I don't think they will race hard on Gotthard, because after that there's an extended flat section going up to the foot of the Furka. Furka is quite a nice climb on fairly narrow roads and the climb steadily gets a bit more difficult. Downhill is on wider roads, not that technical (so you cannot gain much on the peloton there) and immediately followed by Grimsel, which is a steady 8% climb (but only 400 m difference). Downhill from Grimsel is very long, with some easier sections and more technical sections, but also here it'll be difficult to really gain time. Last climb is not very long or hard.

So, all in all I think there's a fair chance Sagan will still be there at the end.

If Swift has hold his climbing form of the Giro, he could be up there.

But i expect Garmin to race on that last climb. The Butcher wants to shine already.

It's a pretty weird stage design. It's not that bad that they don't have a super selective stage right away. But it's a bit of a shame they didn't make a more selective stage with these climbs. It's very easy to create a mountain stage in this area, the likes of which you normally only find in the race design thread, because it's so easy to link up a bunch of epic mountain passes here. They actually do just that, but only somewhere in the middle of the race.

I also know these climbs pretty well; the Furka pass is the first mountain pass I ever saw. I was 10-12 years old or something. Before going on a holiday to Switserland with my family for the first time, I'd never seen anything higher than the Ardennes. I was already baffled when we were halfway through Switserland and saw the first high mountains, but when we took the Furka pass I fell completely in love with mountains. I never imagined a road could be so ridiculously epic as a mountain pass. Maybe it's difficult to understand for some of you growing up in more mountainous area's how it is to see a mountain for the first time in real life when you grow up at 4 meters below sea level. (Or maybe I'm just weird) :D

Interesting breakaway with some climbing power (Deignan, Thurau), and a lot of engines for the flat (Hollenstein, Meyer, Veuchelen, Warbasse). But since it's this early in the race, I think they'll keep them on a short leash (Cannondale, Garmin and others would like to set a relatively high tempo anyway to drop Cav & co).
