I am not sure the Finish is the best place to go for this day. I mean standing is a crowd of Bike Club folks with Performance jerseys on looking at a big screen having to answer if I see Lance isn't how I like to spend the day anyway

I was thinking maybe on the side of the road at the 4th KOM Dawson's Saddle in the San Gabes. But it is like an hour drive from the 210 up the 2 w/o traffic and parking is limited.

The risk is that it might be just group tempo pace west of the 15.

This specific route detail might help someone

Don't think you can go that way since the 2 is still closed.

Try the steep part of of 138 before they get into crestline...it's well before the finish, but is probably the steepest part of the route for the day.

The climb from Snow Valley resort up to lakeview point will be a good spot to watch. The climb below the resort is a bit less steep, the climb from Silverwood to Crestline is quite steep but there are not much for facilities. Snow Valley will have parking, food and restrooms that day.

I thought I heard it was open again

well it is even a longer drive from Palmdale or to back in from wrightwood

now that I think about it I am not so sure it is worth the hassle to watch them ride by for 30 seconds max.

138 to crestline I feel is a clusterphuck as well

Time trials are great to watch. Make a copy of the overall race classification after stage 6. The riders start stage 7 (the TT) in reverse order. Each rider has a motorbike escort leading him with the riders name clearly visible. He is followed by a team car with spare bikes etc.

What I do is wander around the course near the start/finish areas, check out the mechanics preparing the bikes, and as the last riders start I first see some of the riders start, then I head to the finish to see the top riders finish, then go watch the presentations.

Solvang was a great venue last year since there was an uphill right after the start and a downhill followed by a sharp 90 degree turn just before the finish.

There were big crowds at Solvang, Redondo Beach, and Long Beach in the past and I expect that there will be a large crowd at the TT.

I was hanging out at the base of bonny doon rd last year (12% grade at least) and the pace of the breakaway was like my saturday training ride pace, very mellow, everyone staring at eachother trying to use mind reading powers or something... was hoping to see ben jacques maynes bringing the hammer and destroying people... maybe this year i'll find him at the start and slip him some 'roids, and then go to the climb. I didn't really understand the point of riding so slow.. it's not like someone is going to wheel suck on such a steep climb.. i guess they knew the break was doomed.. but then i heard Ben tried to hang with Levi, so why bother riding slow and then waiting for levi to come up fast and try to keep up with him, bah.. i guess its hard when u race against druggies.

On the San Gabe side of this race perhaps we can hope for a solo or small group of lesser know riders form the local teams. Tempo or not it is someting I regret not doing at Palomar last year

I am going to try to get to dawson's saddle from wrightwood. shouldnt be a problem It is a 13 mile climb. but I still can't find bike access info. I figure wtf got the day free. everyone else I know is working. don't matter. With a house full of teen girls I have watch cycling on TV alone in the house anyway late after keeping up with the cardash-jenners and dancing with the hasbeens; and american karaoke and other shows as such .

brother in law is a Lake Arrowhead San Berdo sherrif. He said to stay away and CHP is considering limiting bike access on that side given the numbers they are anticipating.

anyone going up to Dawson's or Blue Ridge KOM? Wrightwood sprint?

I would like to ride up to Dawson's Saddle as well. Kind of worried about finding somewhere to park though. The only info on the ATOC site mentions that it is illegal to park overnite but does not make any suggestions about legal parking for the day.

Today I actually emailed and called Mountain High to see if they will open up their parking lot but I doubt I will get a response as they are closed for the summer. I guess my plan is to try to find somewhere in Wrightwood or along Highway 2 that is legal. I am also guessing this is the plan of many other people.
