Tour of Denmark 2.HC 03/08 - 07/08

Or Post Danmark Rundt in Danish. Preparation course for the Vuelta a Espana. We'll see here Porte, Fuglsang (who won last three editions), Breschel, Freire, Kruijswijk, Ligthart (Dutch champion), Gerrans, Modolo, Belletti etc. Find out here who I missed lol.

Most Spanish and Italian riders are preparing in the Vuelta a Burgos (Purito, Menchov, Sastre, Nibali, ...).

Site of the Tour of Denmark doesn't give the profiles but they link to some links of the Garmin team (or what it is).

Stage 1: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/86196468
Stage 2: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/86196561
Stage 3: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/86197235
Stage 4: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/86197287
Stage 5: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/86197390
Stage 6: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/102518354

At the bottom you can find the profiles, there are some nice options at their site.

Lithgart might win a stage. Porte will definitely try with Riis yelling him on to beat Fuglsang. I don't know how much Breschel will be able to do but he needs the races in his legs for the WC. Going to be nice to see Stevo do it as well.

Doubt it, they'll want to keep the suspense for the worlds and won't want to have a race on the actual course too close to the actual worlds.

Breschel is starting to look better and better though. 12th in San Sebastian isn't too bad for him. He's not the best climber afterall.

I was very suprised to see him hinish so high, he wasn't even supposed to do the race, he was 3rd reserve rider or something like that.

Well he is one of the best riders in the world on a hilly, long course. Was not surprised at all. He will win the worlds on home soil i am afraid.

Yes just look back to 2009 worlds, he was right up there with riders like Evans and Sanchez on that very hilly course.

lol at the Post Danmark Rundt being used as Vuelta preparation. The two are sure alike!!!

Now, for the Worlds it's great prep. Maybe it will help for the Valdepenas de Jáen stage or something, but I don't see it helping much for the Vuelta, certainly not as much as Burgos or Poland.

Fuglsang going to win again?

It's certainly not the ideal prep race, but it's just to get up to racing speed... the real prep for the high mountains is done in training anyway.

That being said, I also have no idea what Kruijswijk is doing there.

I didn't mean like it's the Dauphiné for the Tour but you see many names who're doing the Vuelta also riding here for making kilometers and being competitive.

No, obviously, because Burgos is the Vuelta's warmup race, the same as Trentino for the Giro.

Most of the riders doing the Vuelta who are here will be sprinters, TT guys and maybe some hilly classics men looking mostly for a preview of the Worlds course (which they'll drop out of the Vuelta after 2 weeks for), plus Rabobank's weird selection.

Probably because Breschel wants to ride in Denmark and Rabo doesn't want to ride both Denmark ánd Burgos.

next year they will all do the tour of denmark in preperation for the vuelta, after they see Kruijswijk riding away from them in the mountains...

ahhh wishful thinking :D..

anyways yeah weird selection by rabo, maybe Breschel got to pick it :)

The wind could (should) be a factor today. It can be quite windy, no - make that stormy, on the west coast, but I don't know the wind direction today. Crosswinds could tear the peloton apart.

The last 500-600 meters or so are uphill, which should favor sprinters with an uphill kick. Someone like Bennati, Breschel, Freire, Appollonio, maybe Michael van Stayen who won on a similar finish last year.

That has been the purpose of this stage the last couple of years (almost identical routes every year). However, the wind hasn't proved to become a factor after all. Hopefully something will happen this year because the west coast is indeed stormy.
