It seems we are on for another descent to a finish - today's last 5 km

The good thing is it's done twice so the guys will get a good idea of the difficulty.

Judging by the webcam images, the roads will be fine, but there's no doubt that it's going to be very cold for the boys on the descent.

After the descent it's flat for the last km but there's a tricky right, left with 250 m to go so the first guy there will be a favourite to win.

It's not actually a bad move, at least Ineos don't have to go on the front all day now and it's not like he's a scrubber

When was the last time a solo break worked? I remember Dave Zabriskie in 2004 and maybe a Tony Martin one, but might be getting confused with the Vuelta stage where Cancellara dragged him back at the end.

Tony Martin had one in a Tour stage in 2014 where he was up the road with De Marchi all day until he dropped him at ~55k to go. I don‘t know if he‘s had a longer solo.

Fantastic conditions, good Giro prep this.
Just imagine shite weather merchant Pogacar 2 minutes up the road and you have basically a mirror of what will happen in 3 weeks.

Foss looks quite good, Thomas dropping though, O'Connor etc will need to work in the valley to catch Bardet, who descends well

Foss needs to get off the front so much, he's only leader by 3 seconds, other riders have incentive to work too, though he might just be doing his own pace.

He was trying to set a pace fast enough to discourage more attacks but slow enough to keep Thomas in the peloton
