Ok Guys,

I'm training following the teaching of Joel Friel.. but I would like to know if there is anyone here that Know other methods of training.

I'm boring of periodization and I would like to be 80-90% all year than be 90-100% two or three times a year.

What type of events are you doing?

Joe Friel done a lot of work on Masters but some of it is out of date now its OK racing all year but you never get to the top you just go from race to race at same fittness .
10 day holliday every 3 months works good it only takes 10 days to get back into it and you are fresh.

??

I have not read or used Joe Friel's stuff.....However, on another very popular endurance sport site and forum, where a number of world authorites on coaching and training regularly post (under their own names I might add).....poor old Joe has been getting an absolute hiding!! they have been ridiculing his ideas and theories for some time now!

To summarise - very out dated and perhaps best to avoid.

Just tellin you what I've been seeing and reading.

There are better ways.

The Wattage Groups usually have some good discussions as does slowtwitch depending on what kind of events you are looking at.

Training??

Remove all electronics from your bike, put down the books and ride 350 miles/week super-hard.

Accept the needle. Ride TTs at 34mph for almost 1 hour. Win money, admiration and a Pro Contract.

Criterium!!!

Where I live there is one type of race: Criterium!! Races with 1h of duration. A lot of corners and accelerations.

What is this forum that the people talk about another method of training?

Thanks.

This thread is a perfect example of why you shouldn't take any advice from forums, it's all crap posted by a bunch of pure dummies.

so what's specifically wrong with Friel?

There is nothing wrong Friel. He and others continue to tell people how to get fit and the real question and answer is how to get fast. The original question came from a guy from Brasil that says crits are the grunch of what is offered. Ask yourself a few questions. Are you fit?(low body fat, good sleep and work habits, good mechanics on the bike.proper fit no stress/injury related aliments). If you have all the needed componenets you will also need training, recovery time. And then after you have all that you need disposable income. OK everything is in place..you need a car,van or motorcycle and start motor pacing. If you are learning it can be a big, serious crash waiting to happen but it is a proven method. Have a long stretch of road, pace behind the car at 25-28mph..ride in the drops and get the confidence to not tap your brakes. after staying in the slipstream of the pace vehilce swing out into the wind, without getting out of the saddle maintain the same speed for 60 to 90 seconds repeat until you get dropped 4 or 5 times. Continue this until you can ride in the wind for for 2 to 3 minutes. Amazed is how you will feel w the increases in your speed. After you get this learn to jump ahead of the car for the same amount of time and reurn to the draft. Motor pacing is not the only way but it is the simplest, proven, cheapest, fatsest way..but comapred to indoor and warm ,fuzzy technical approaches it is very dangerous.99% of all pros on the road and track motorpace. All people that consitently win crits MP. Joe Friel is fine..but if you want fast..he doesn't specialize in that
