Transporting your bike on a Motorbike

I am thinking about downsizing our car fleet (2) to one, by selling my Utiltity (RV) & moving to a Harley Sportster but I still need to get my bike to events.
I recall that a few years ago an American mtb racer carried his bike to races on the back of his motorbike.
Can any one recall that, & does any one have any details, or even his name.
I know it is a long shot but I would like to try to get in touch with him for further info.
