But there's still time!
A couple of good blasts from the Nlab direction this week. One a real boomer and shaker. They do all sorts of things out there including practice on destroying large "terror bombs." They also test the conventional explosives used in nuclear bombs. Have not heard those in a while. Arming a few up?

Those rights loving Republican legislators are at it again as they urge Obama to declare the Boston bombing suspect an enemy combatant so he can be tortured. Way to uphold that Constitution. Good job, boys. I knew you could do it. Now we just need Obama to cave as he always does.

You get I was joking, right?
Was not sure. Even so pointing out the historical context in reply to your jest is valuable as humor has some elements of truth or it would not be funny.

Nations like people, sometimes have differences, but still have to get along.

...no push at all....and btw if you "end" it with the fall of the Berlin Wall you may be missing the point....and the point is that the US of A ultimately lost WW2....
LOL. Sounds like someone has been buying a lot of product from Daryl Webster.

Some leftists cannot get over the fact that the good ol' US of A and its freedom loving people defeated the forces of socialism. Seventy years later and they are still in denial.

The United States didn't defeat a socialist state. Saying the USSR was socialist is like saying that Hitler was socialist.

Wall St. loves you for believing.

Hi Ben, we need more money.
Ben: of course, right away.
Hi Ben, we can't afford these losses, we think the taxpayer owes it to us for doing God's work.
Ben: I couldn't have said it better myself.

That's not going to happen. Obama himself dismantle the CIA techniques in place under WBush. It has been replace with a joint union of intelligence agencies put together for just this circumstance to interrogate a subject on the bases of a threat to NS, or the other route is possibly the lesser denial of Miranda Rights base on public safety. In the case of either, they can interrogate the suspect sans Miranda to gain further info on possible connections to other cells or plots, accomplishes, etc. However, they will not be able to use, as I understand it, against him in his trial. Not that they need it. I also understand there are limits on the methods of interrogation assuming he lives.

There's at least one photo online of him in hospital. He looks to be badly burned about the shoulder and face.

I guess some Republicans still see it as a "war on terror only" to which I would agree if the suspect were not already a U.S. Citizen, which he is. If he had recently enter the country and was a non citizen, then I would agree to the military trial route. I think those Rs (Let me guess, McCain and/or Graham?) are making hay of it.

Hitler a fascist, proclaiming socialism. USSR proclaiming communism (socialist extremism), became fascist. The USSR did cave under cold war pressure.

That's your article of faith. The USSR's centripedal pressures eventually caught up to it.

Don't spin it.

There is no problem with the US military or any other one for that matter having those assault weapons but the real issue is why a citizen would need one at all. It should be most telling, McChrystal says that himself.

And a serious question, what Kings are you worried about that you still to need to arm yourself?
Guns are an American tradition given that even up to WWII many in the Western US hunted for food with them. In the dust bowl, rabbit was even on the list. I accounted for the the Kentucky Long Rifle in the The War of 1812, the militia army was made up of men who hunted with them more than they ever shot a volley in war. The British had no problem, nor have had, arming tribes like the Black Feet across their Empire...um I mean the world.

I hate contributing to this thread, but whilst i am not sure if the soviets were ever 'socialist', i am pretty sure that the national-socialist tag that hitler used to describe his party and the politico-economic system was close to the mark...
There are several excellent historical academic works on the subject of the hitlerite germany economic model. They pretty much agree about the socialist inclination.

That many contemporary economies (note - we are not talking ideology here) are almost identical to the german model of the time - but for understable reasons prefer NOT to call themselves 'national-socialist' - is due to modern political correctness.

Socialism allowed for private business, but not communism, though with a strong state hand in the national economy.

The irony is that both Mussolini and Hitler were socialists, though they colored their particular brand of tyrannical socialism with a mythologized and fundamentally rhetorical nationalism. In fact the black shirts/Nazis went on punitive raids against those socialists who didn't feel inclined toward violent repression against the "weakness" of the society they believed to have been defending, which needed to express what they regarded as the grandeur of the Italian or German people/race.

The USSR transformed a religious orthodoxy into the sanctification of the soviet party leadership, hence religious zeal and political fanaticism go hand in hand.

Capito?

I understand. Being Canadian socialism doesn't scare me. Oligarchy or whatever pseudonym one wants to give it, well, that never really works out well.

Oligarchy has some really nice synonyms, like "Trust," "Conglomerate," or "Multinational."

I know what you're saying. It is all so confusing. When a paranoid religious loon of a conservative uses a bunch of deaths to try to take away the people's Constitutionally protected rights, that's bad; but when a paranoid touchy-feely bed wetting liberal uses a bunch of deaths to try to take away the people's Constitutionally protected rights, that's good. When you think about it then it is not that confusing at all. You just have to be on the right side.
