UCI América Tour 2011

UCI_AmericaHeader.jpg

The Américas, are country's in the Western hemisphere, also known as the New World, comprising the continents of North America and South America with their associated islands and regions. The plural form the Americas is often used in English, as the singular America is ambiguous: America is more commonly used to refer to the United States of America. The Americas cover 8.3% of the Earth's total surface area (28.4% of its land area) and contain about 13.5% of the human population (over 900 million people).
Biggest city's are Mexico City: 21,163,226 - New York City: 19,750,000 - São Paulo: 18,850,000. This year the UCI cycling Tour in the Américas will be one of the most Fiercely Contested Competitions ever. In this thread all the news, results, updates, previews, pictures, video's and highs & lows of this exciting event already starting October 16, 2010.

7th Tour do Brasil/ Volta Ciclística de São Paulo from 16-24 Oct

The Argentine Edgardo Simon is the first leader of the Tour do Brazil de Sao Paulo. "The competition level is very high and all the stages are very difficult. The geography of this stage was quite varied, but our team did a good job, in order to be able to fight for victory. We are well prepared and we want to fight till the last day for the overall title, "said Simon, who will be leading the race tomorrow in stage 2.
Gonzalo Miranda, the Chilean took second place a much celebrated result. "The whole team should be congratulated. We could control the pace, despite feeling the heat of the home riders," said the Chilean.
In third place was Alejandro Silva Glauber, "It was the best result of my career. I want to win a stage and get the podium at the end." Said the Brazilian.
The 168 cyclists gathered in the Plaza del Pueblo, in Presidente Prudente, 7:30am. The caravan made a circle in the town and then went to the Raposo Tavares highway, where Peter Schmid (GER), Sydney Santos escaped from the peloton and staged a duel that lasted almost till the end of this leg. The Brazilian won both sprints and takes the points, the German won the KOM award.

Chamorro! Awesome. He won the Copa America 2009, I like him. Good rider. Nice to see that Scott-Marcondes César-São José dos Campos isn't totally gone, since São José dos Campos are still there - plus Marcondes César have taken up co-sponsorship on Funvic. This is good, seeing the sponsors staying in the sport. It's like when Selle Italia-Ghezzi collapsed, both sponsors are still there.

portugese and brazilian cycling are very much the same thing except brazilian cycling is much more specified for sprinters and itt riders. they had the same increidble doping problems and have the most loyal sponsors,. they only switch teams but stay in sport.
