Blunk probably thought she was first, and didn't notice Jenny was coming on inside. Had she looked to her left before cutting the corner...

Blunk was clearly in front going into the corner and her wheels were following the line made in the mud by every person pre-riding the course. It was a really stupid move on Rissved's part. She was riding like it was the last corner not the first, except if it was the last corner Blunk would have been ready for her.

You must be careful when riding in the mud, you never know who's coming on the inside.

Blunk was following the established line, if you look at the tracks. Rissveds cut under her and that line. It was a dive bomb in conditions like that, and she drove through her arms. It was a stupid move by Rissveds, and completely unnecessary.

I actually posted my last post before reading yours, and I couldn't agree more.

To say it was Blunk's responsibility to know Rissveds would dive bomb her is avoiding the abject reality that Rissveds pulled an overly aggressive move in the 1st corner, and took out the only rider who looked to be in her class in that race. She should have been assessed some sort of consequence for it.

Because of her reaction and refusal to apologize, I will root against her as long as she races.
 
The rules need reviewing - and so do the penalties.......

The UCI are too happy to DSQ riders for minuscule offences. A DSQ should only ever be for major offences....Look at motorsport - you have to do something fairly serious to get a DSQ.

Just bring in time penalties, Stop/Go penalties.......and please review the ridiculous track limits rules......riders leaving the track shouldn't be a DSQ........Apply that rule to motorsport and most cars would be out of the race.......

Can you imagine him doing similar for the CX, or Road Worlds.....????

A proper prep is never going to happen, is it? A full season on the MTB, and no Tour - after the spring classics like in 2019. If it really was a main aim then he'd surely he'd be able to persuade the team.....

He'll have a poor grid position for the Worlds, and burn too many matches getting near the front; unless he crashes before that.....

I mean, I could sort of imagine him doing it for CX. Maybe not no prep races, but racing Worlds as his 3rd or 4th event of the season.
 
Pidcock is different class on the MTB compared to MvdP; he turns up and is immediately at the sharp end.....His winning/podium % is insane.
 
Some very exciting races this year so far. And some drama as well. some interesting observations across forums ...

The UCI absolutely need to improve some of the rules. There is some pretty terrible wording with downright absurd consequences (DQ rather than a small time penalty, fine, or better yet - nothing because nothing bad actually happened). Some examples:
  • The intent of the course cutting rule was never to DQ someone from minute deviations or slide outs, it was meant to keep people from creatively taking better lines outside the tape and gaining advantage. Yesterday in Lenzerheide the announcers were wondering if Azzaro would get a DQ because he momentarily crossed the tape when he bobbled. Total silliness.
  • Azzaro getting a DQ for going through the tech zone in Leogang (which was definitely not an advantage).
Hopefully the interpersonal made-up drama has settled a bit. The amount of mind-reading about what a rider's intent was is pretty indicative of the bias we bring to viewing. I found Rissveds' post race comments were interesting and suggested to me that she had spent a good part of the week processing what had occurred (and she was pretty happy Blunk won on the XCC).

The actual racing though? Wow. Happy that Blevins and Koretzky are back from injuries. Aldridge and Punchard seem to be recovering from a nasty cold or flu, so hopefully back to full steam soon as well. And hope to see Jenn Jackson return soon!!!

And finally, as someone who enjoys riding the trails, I would like to say to the bike industry, please stop pushing 32" wheels.

(and one last note, WBD - you folks suck)

Yeah, if you watched Keller, there was a very short, very steep section, that you could watch her get bogged down because of the wheels. I am with the camp that says we don't need a new wheel standard.

Paris Roubaix 2028 will probably be on 9th April , olympics is 18th July. Assuming post classics rest and golf for a couple of weeks that leaves him just over two months to prepare and race world cups.

He/ or the Netherlands have to get a place.......So points will be needed; did they have a male rider in Paris 2024? I'd have to look it up......


Gerben de Knegt will be pleading for him to race more - as there's not a stand out U23 Dutch male rider around.
