Lappartient and the rest of the oh so self righteous and comfortable UCI should be VERY careful when imposing their WorldTour points system.
I note that he highlights the NBA, in his Cycling news piece, I would like to point out that the NBA has absolutely NO connection to another of these Faux sports Governments FIBA and is financially far stronger than the FIBA OR cycling.
In Drag Racing the FIA rule with crass stupidity, electing people with no real financial acumen where else could a Swedish train worker become the European President of a sporting commission!
The worlds largest and financially strongest most powerful Drag Racing organiser is the NHRA (National HotRod Association) and they told. The FIA to FO in no uncertain terms decades ago, when they came sniffing thinking they could get cash from all those NHRA Licence holders and teams.
What is interesting that Americans now own F1 and if the FIA keep interfereing they WILL without doubt tell them that they are no longer welcome, event gates are falling with no sign of recovering, the fact is racegoers want V10 V12 motors back but that is not what governments and manufacturers want, so I fully expect to see an FIA free F1 series within ten years with a single motor option Awarded every few years which may well mean Ferrari pull out.
The UCI speak in a grandiose manner but impose stupid sanctions like this point system because Football does it! that damages a sport a hundred years old yes, but only just beginning to grow substantially, Not the best way to encourage entrepreneurs such as Israel-Premier Tech team owner Sylvan Adams The only compensation he will get is rules are rules even if the rules are wrong.
So why does cycling allow the UCI to play at being in charge?
The fact is ASO hold the sole rights to the worlds biggest most popular cycle races With the Tour de France, the worlds largest annual sporting event, le Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the Vuelta, The Paris-Nice and Critérium du Dauphiné stage races’, prestigious classics such as Paris-Roubaix (Men and Women), Liège-Bastogne-Liège (Men and Women), The Flèche Wallonne (Men and Women) and Paris-Tours and Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta (Women). And are activley Promoting cycling around the world (NOT THE UCI) is a key plank of its development strategy. Through the Tour of Qatar, the Tour of Oman, Saudi Tour, Arctic Race of Norway, Deutschland Deine Tour, Eschborn–Frankfurt and Tour de France Criteriums in Saitama and Singapour, A.S.O. is an active contributor to the development of cycling worldwide. The UCI takes MONEY without giving back!
So rather than complaining about how the UCI is planning to make cycling more like other sports why not just give them notice?
The UCI do nothing that a good event owner does not do already far more efficiently maybe they could remain for some safety regs but otherwise who needs em!
I speak as someone who has worked with some of these faux governments and they ALL speak the same language they ALL have the same aims SELF SELF SELF.
