Following the recent ruling on spiked tyres for cyclo-cross at Tabor the UCI are said to be considering banning tyres with raised tread patterned tyres from elite competition MTB events as they offer an unfair competitive advantage and may encourage riders to ride in a "hazardous" manner.

The new changes are expected to come into effect from 12am GMT on the first of this month.
