The main challenges in the race are narrow roads, some cobbled sections, and three climbs up the VAM Berg (average 9.7%; maximum 16%) The VAM Berg is an artificial hill built on a landfill site / rubbish dump!

2012 Podium

1. Judith Arndt (GER) Orica - AIS
2. Kristin Armstrong (USA) USA
3. Joëlle Numainville (CAN) Canada

Susanna Zorzi of Faren-Let's Go Finland (!) has a minute's advantage. The team is mostly Italian, despite the name. Susanna's 21, and is a pretty useful time triallist. She also has a decent sprint on her - outsprinting Giorgia Bronzini (!!!) to take a stage of the Trophée d'Or last year.

There have been some crashes so far. Snow reported on the vakenberg and berendries. Let's see what this tells for the men's.

Gap is down to 32 seconds for Sorzi, after the valkenberg. Peloton is split in 2 groups too

I'm happy with that:D

Van Dijk bridged to Emma, Borghini and Vos.

Chasing VanVleuten, Gunnewijk, Visser,Armitstead, Van der Breggen

Ellen van Dijk has managed to get across to them, now a quartet. They have 18" over a chasing trio of van Vleuten, Armitstead and Gunnewijk.

Seems Johansson has now lost contact with the other 3 in the front group!

Edit: and has caught back on. 15km to go for the quartet.

Edit edit: and with 5km to go Emma J attacks solo!

Edit edit edit: 2km to go and it looks like Vos and Johansson. Longo Borghini apparently looking very tired but trying to pull across the gap.

Edit: lots of games played by the front group, now Longo Borghini attacking with 1km to go!

Edit: VOS WINS in the four-up sprint.

1) Marianne Vos
2) Ellen van Dijk
3) Emma Johansson
4) Elisa Longo Borghini

Emma J has now been on the podium of every single European race she's entered this year, while Vos has finally won de Ronde, the only major race that had eluded her.

I think there are a couple of people getting ready to give Vos a run for his money in the next few years. If she sticks around she'll have a figth.

Did I mention Borghini already? 21 years old! Another good ride.
