Uh-oh. ACA turns to the dark side

I've only lived in Colorado for a few months but I have been very impressed by the quality ond number of races promoted by ACA.

Death Star

Enforcing the UCI rules of forbidding racing in non-uci events wasn't working and USAC's continuing embarrassment that Colorado's road racing was nearly all ACA.

ACA's choice was to join USAC or end up bankrupt. USAC was threatening to start it's own association and then kill the ACA. It's the equivalent of organized crime shakedown, "Nice race federation you have there... It would be a shame if something bad happened to it. I sell protection insurance..."

More bad news for U.S. bike racing.

Wow, that sucks. I've held an ACA license for the past 6 or 7 years but took this past season off. After learning this, I won't be going back to road racing.

Also, I have heard that USAC now want to form a monopoly on online race registration, i.e. put companies like bikereg.com out of business.

Uh-oh. Things are worse than we thought. USAC has moved us one step closer to triathlon by legalizing sleeveless jerseys for ITTs and mountain biking. It won't be long before the sport suffers the indignity of dorks racing in compression leggings.

Lots of money to be made doing this given the nominal amount of development cost to create such a thing. Why is a sports federation messing around in the promoter's side of the sport? Weisel wants it all. That's why.

I wonder what the UCI will have to say about the sleeveless rule. Another blow to growing the sport, which is probably the point. Where's the local dentist's logo going to go now?

I love this quote from the OBRA article:
"I was once a pioneer for bringing USAC back to Oregon on a limited basis. But they have burned that bridge. They have lost sight of what is important. I personally am on a mission to get them out of cyclocross all together. Otherwise, they will destroy it like they did mountain bike racing."

I know a former USAC employee who has told me about extreame nepotism and general disfunctionality within that organization. They don't care about the grassroots at all.

Lying Liars Who Lie

I had to stop and take a break from the epic Petty lies.

"It was the ACA clubs and its members who voted to return to USAC"
Aaand USAC's threat to start a local association to destroy ACA had nothing to do with it? Really?

"we have 600,000 racer days per year"
Really? Where?

We’ve grown by 6% per year for the last several years
Grown what by 6%? Not membership. Not races outside of 'cross.

"We're all in this together"
Except if you are against us. And that's anyone in OBRA.

Steve Johnson threatened the ACA and that is why they folded.
Too bad OBRA couldn't open a satellite office in Colorado.
