We are saddened to announce that we must postpone the US/Canadian Open at Whiteface, scheduled for September 7 through September 9. A new time and date will be determined.

Since some of you may have planned to take this weekend off to come and ride with us, we would like to add some extra fun for the weekend.

Party at Downhill Mike's cabin in Lake Placid on Saturday after the mountain closes. Beverages and barbecue for all! Everyone that buys a lift pass on Saturday (or season pass customers!) will receive an invitation with directions.

We will also be holding a race down just the Cliff's of Insanity (Trail 26) at 12 noon on Sunday September 9 for only $5.00 plus your lift pass. This race will have a very laid back atmosphere. There will still be prizes for those that place 1st through 3rd in their category/age bracket, and bragging rights of course.

Sneak peak at the next press release for the US/Canadian Open at Whiteface:

Both race organizers, the Whiteface Bike Park crew and Tuf Rack are now referring to this event as the big race, at the big mountain with the big money! And here is why:

01) The big race is on September 7 thru September 9 uses part of the infamous 5K DH race course with twist! It’s much easier to describe the course than it is to race it!
a) The 1st 350 + feet of vertical is fast! Speeds of 50 mph/80kmh or more can be reached!
b) The next 1,450 + feet of vertical will use the combined single-track trails of the Cliffs of Insanity, Evil Empire, The Fire Swamp and Fearless. Gnarly is by far the best word to describe this section that is a race course in itself.
c) The final 700 feet of vertical may be even faster than the top section. Whiteface’s pro and co-director of the bike park, Evil Elias Ingraham clocked an un-official time of just 38 seconds on this final stretch!

Note. Records show that Jamie Ford won the Whiteface 5K DH back in 2006 in a blazing time of only 6 minutes and 36 seconds. It is quite possible to see a new course record this year!

02) The big mountain is Whiteface Mountain located in Wilmington, N.Y. The same mountain that was used in the 1980 Winter Olympics and looms more than 3,600 feet over the base lodge!

03) The big money is $10,000.00 CASH + PRIZES + MEDALS ~ 3 DEEP ~ ALL CATEGORIES
