US Pro doping, looking for insight

Just wondering if anyone knows any shady rumors about individuals or teams in the US pro teams.

I have heard some sketchy things about the Fly V guys. I know Zajicek was seen taking an IV at a host house during Tour of Utah last year, after they were banned. He was of course implicated in Joe Papp's list.

I have heard some things about Ben Day as well, from former team mates. They said they thought it was pathetic that he takes what he does and isnt able to do much in the NRC. That was all they said, nothing specific as far as what they claimed he was taking.

Any one else have rumors or first/second hand info on any guys in the US?

Dude...you are hardcore. FYI, Zajicek was the cyclist who won his arbitration case against USADA. USADA apparently wasn't able to get access to the same type of info they had for O'Bee, since they don't have subpoena power.

I know Zajicek won his case. I was just using him as an example. I also believe he should not have gotten off like he did. From what I understand he escaped by way of a technicality.

Rumors abound but your approach is awkward. "Hearing" things is different than more direct knowledge and hopefully only substantial information would offered up.

I apologize for being rather vague and awkward...

One member on here mentioned a while back that many NRC riders "know" when there is a rider on the Gear, even when they have not been caught or may not get caught. Basically I am looking for that type of knowledge. Guys with shady goings on, or experiences from teammates ect.

A lot of people on here mention the Navigators as being a historically dirty team, but there isnt any specific evidence to back that up other than riders being caught after leaving the team.

i read somewhere that someone was going to get busted for something.

i can't be much more specific than that i'm afraid.

Yeah. Me too. And I'm never ever wrong. Bank on it. Unless someone got paid off to keep it quiet. In which case, I'm still never wrong.

I hear some washed-up, never-competitive, rower-turned-cyclist from Yale might have taken some stuff.

I also hear he's hideously ugly--to such an extent that he would have been unemployable in Europe even with some stateside results.

Funny, my thread was surgically directed and called a troll and removed. This one is farcical at best, and the definition of trolling. You guys are Brits. I thought you blokes could spot a troll a mile away!

What is it you truly seek to know about Davidenko and his pals? Perhaps you needed to get the **** out of bed and ride prospect park a bit more often 10 years ago.

Oh man, is this thread going to devolve into an NYC cyclist catfight? Because I would love to sit back and watch that one from my current perch in Boston...

If you really want to start a thread about Sandbagging, then by all means, start bringing-up Navigators.

This thread has nowhere to go but down on outright speculation. Move to disqualify, your honor.

I am curious how people feel when the 2011 Masters champion (road / crit) comes back 3 years later, and wins US Pro. I realise some riders crashed out (ugh Phinney) but there were some solid pros in this field. Was the course flat enough that a unit / track rider like this guy can win?

"Wins big" is a wonderful play on words, too. Chapeau to the headline writer.

Can't tell you much about the course but we weren't kidding when US Masters Racing, particularly Crits are described as "fast". Look to one of the chasers...Olheiser. You've got former Masters that are not 30+....
At the risk of degenerating into the speculation I previously ridiculed the race exemplifies two possibilities: that older racers can be that fast if trained appropriately or...the other possibility.

By the way; Marcotte should be congratulated and his DS, Creed has a pretty good history. Shouldn't wrap the winner up with some other speculation as I don't know anything about him. Hope that's clear.

There is zero possibility of no doping in US Cycling, and zero possibility of no doping in US Masters Cycling. Moreover, there is some history of US Pro winners being dopers.

While Crits can be brutal, winning one doesn't mean you are doped. Even if you are a Master.

So, it is possible that it was clean. And that is about all you can say.

Dave.

This was the 165.5km road race though, not a crit. Hence my query re: course and his obvious weight disadvantage if it had anything like a hill on it. Power hills notwithstanding.

He won both the masters road race and the crit in 2011. Not sure how he did in the crit this year.

Fun fact, he lost the rr, but the winner was DQ'd for doping.

Unlike other performances this year (from other riders), I can't see anything ridiculous about this one.

Many "pros" are unable to read a race these days and operate a bit like drones in a event like this imo.

It could be the winner took advantage of the situation or he could be doped. Who knows.

We are not talking serious competition here.

Note: I found the race very entertaining.
