Heyy Mods,

Maaaan, as i look thru the forums, what satnds out for me are the nasty posts which deride other posters comments by degrading sarcasm and vicious attack .... !

Why dont you get some control of the Forums????

a person COULD make a point without undermining anothers POV !!!

The internet helps people attack others because they are anonymous and not held accountable.

If people said these things to people to their face, ... they'd get a good clocking!

Perhaps you cant teach people things their parents should have, but .... you could raise the bar a little!!!

its so hard not to reply to this in a rude, sarcastic and slightly vicious way. :D:D

Maaaan it's a fricken' internet forum. It's like complaining that hockey players aren't nice to each other. Besides the insultee is just as anonymous as the insulter. I don't get particularly upset if someone who doesn't even know me wants to insult me. He doesn't know me why should I give his opinion any weight whatsoever? Sure I may respond in kind for the sport, why not?
Lighten up it's all just for fun.

it is the internet. it is not real. rinse. repeat.

Proper use of punctuation can give meaning to an otherwise unintelligible pile of words.;)

Please feel fee to report any individual postings you find offensive. We have said repeatedly that the mods are not on duty 24/7 nor do we read every single post in every single thread.

Edited by mod, because this is exactly the kind of thing the OP was talking about.

it's a good thing the OP has a moderator looking out for him. otherwise he might get his delicate feelings hurt. i wonder who performs this function for him in the real world. i sure hope he has someone to erase all of the mean things he hears every time his boss yells at him or when he receives the finger from someone while driving.

I tune in specifically for the snarky diatribe. Without it, well, it would all just sort of suk wouldn't it?

This post borderlines on vicious. Why can't we just all get along?

It would be cool if the mods opened a thread, like the banned thread, where they could paste what they mod out or the posts that cause people to get banned. No member could post, but that would be alot more transparent than the current system.

great idea, but somehow i doubt they will go for this. they have even set the word filter to astericize words that contain spellings that might offend delicate sensibilities. spoof, pakistan, dick cheney and a long list of others don't make past the word filter without manipulation.

i am sure somebody is getting the vapours just reading the above sentence.

I've been out of the country and haven't posted in several days or read the forum, but I see where cobblestoned etal are po'd that somebody named ned got banned. I couldn't see the posts that he got banned for but King Martin proclaimed he was a troll so that is that.

I am sure he was not castigating LA with the proper fervor or something, or maybe he called one of the in-crowd a name they themselves toss around multiple times thoughout a thread.

Francois stated when I came back things would be more evenhanded from now on. I applaud that effort, and I assume some leeway in "letting us go at it" was part of that new path forward. Maybe it is not. For that reason I am throttling back what I really think about the OP.

As has been stated in the suspension thread he was a previously banned member returning under a new psuedonym, under the old psuedonym he was banned for vicious trolling

First off my apologies to Martin. It was Susan that banned him. Here is what she posted in the banned thread:

NedBraden has been banned for trolling, baiting and being a previously suspended user.

So, it appears you have your story backwards because she states nedbraden was banned for trolling a baiting, who also happens to be a previously banned member.

Will Susan edit the banned post to agree with you, or will you edit your reply to me to agree with Susan? :p

Cobblestoned etal says he wasn't trolling he just wasn't with the pitchfork brigade. I believe another poster said the same thing (I'm going from memory here cuz I'm too lazy to chase this down) who is probably of a higher standard with the mod crew than cobblestoned. Wouldn't this all become clearer, if the mod crew really gave a crap, if my suggestion was followed?

In my mind it won't happen that moderated posts will get into a specific topic, mainly because many moderated posts are not the kind of posts that we want on the forum and that it will only ensure more of the same types of discussion cropping up, that we do not want to have on the forum.

ALso, perhaps it is phrased incorrectly by Susan but the main reason for his ban was the fact that he was a previously banned user

I understand that you cannot repost things that you don't want in the public domain, like name calling etc. And, it would take time that you etal don't have if you editted them enough to still display the meat of why they are being banned. I get that, but I just wanted to toss it out there to start discussion. Maybe it will lead to more transparency in other ways....

But, Susan should edit her post because that is the crux of cobblestoned's argument and the tack I was taking here if what she posted was true. Ned wasn't trolling you say, he was just a previously banned poster. That is totally different and changes the landscape and puts a sock in cobblestoned's grill, don't you think?

No, no no, I did not say he was not trolling, it was just that the decision to permanently ban him was mainly based on the fact that he was a previously banned member. I do not know enough about the entire case to say whether he was trolling or not. I only know for certain that he was previously banned for trolling, among other things

You're spinning, that is not what you wrote upthread. You said he was a previous poster that was banned for vicious trolling (whatever that is, sticks/stones etc), and ned was banned because of that.

If Susan's post is true and he was banned for "trolling and baiting", and he was doing nothing more than offering an alternative opinion from the mainstream in here which is what cobblestoned and that other poster claimed (was it maxitron???), then doesn't that fly in the face of Francois' proclamation awhile back about being tolerant to other opinions?

This is the base of the whole argument about banning people, ie whether or not they get banned for their opinions as opposed to whether or not they attack other members. You know my opinion, but I thought things had changed.

Apparently even the mod staff is confused as well on what the real policy is....Francois with his "tolerant" proclamations, Susan banning for trolling when it was nothing more than different opinions (baiting), and you spinning around in circles like a carnival ride.
