Villumsens bike

Is anyone able to confirm whether Villumsen was riding her teams sponsored bike, in the worlds? If so, I am assuming it was the Wilier Twin Blade. It was hard to tell, being completely black, which did look awesome!

Any thoughts on the bikes performance, in comparison to what everyone else is riding out there? All things being unequal as well as personal, to each rider of course. But if you were to compare the bike, could it have factored into her victory given the small margin at the finish?

I note the Eurosport guys commented that the conditions were slightly calmer towards the end of the race, with the suggestion that it may have affected Armstrong's time, seeing she went early. The medallists started in the last wave which I guess might question the UCI's theory on mixed waves!

Sorry for all the questions!

That all-black bike was a problem, as it was NOT her Wilier bike as required by her team's rules. It caused a huge fuss! But, at least she concealed what kind of bike it was (in the time-honoured tradition ;-). The article just appeared in Cycling News.

They only forgot to hide the Bontrager logo right beneath the saddle. But I have to say that in all black this bike looks really a lot like the willier one though. Hard to tell the difference from just the lines of the bike.

It puts the team in a very difficult position. Bike providers are key sponsors, even where they aren't title sponsors. She did have the good sense not to have a rival manufacturers logo visible.

(On the other hand, she won. And if the bike fits better or is marginally faster, it was worth it from her point of view. And the team's other sponsors are probably quite happy about having a rainbow jersey for the year).

It looks like the Trek Speed Concept 2.5 from a few years ago. The way the rear chainstays mount to the seat tube is more like the aluminum frame than the carbon frames. If word got out that she ditched her carbon willier for an aluminum trek the world would surely end.

She coulndt get low enough....sounds like BS to me. At that level, you just dont improvise, everything is already settled so she already knew what she was doing. Where did she find a trek of her size the last minute? Obviously, everything was ready from the start. As team manager, i would fire her for sure, because you can't risk a team sponsorship (and maybe a team existence) for a TT world title. As an athlete, if i know my team supply is not the fastest material, I would probably would have done the same.

but the end result is not so bad, sponsor-wise: controversy -> more articles, discussions, etc. -> more media time, and much more mentions of the team bike sponsor name than they could have hoped normally -> profit -> do it deliberately next time (Che Adwara from University of Guerilla Marketing approves)

or customers will be like: "Well Wilier is not fast enough, better buy Trek" :D

Maybe it's a coincidence but Jersey Sergent rides for Trek? Can't see any other reason the NZ national team might have some spare Trek's lying around?

She was riding for New Zealand, not UHC. Maybe the bike was NZ issue.

What backup bike was on her follow car?

Team kit looks suspect too, it says New Zealand not UHC?
This^^^^

I remember Michael Rogers riding a debadged P3 in the Beijing Olympic TT, then there was the GB Team bikes. Emma Pooley has ridden debadged Cervelos at worlds and the last Comm Games too, even when "sponsored" by Ridley.

Women's bikes are getting better but in terms of fit there are still some brands that are worlds ahead. Trek is apparently one of them. Chances are that the Trek is Villumsen's personal bike. Then there's things like women's team sponsors not providing the same level of support as the men, including bikes.

It's about time it was about the national jersey and not the pro team you ride for. Two completely different things.

By making a fuss the team has told everyone she wasn't on a Wilier. It is individual world championships, less about trade teams. I'm happy for her as an athlete she finally won the race that has eluded her so far in her career. "Storm in a tea cup", move on the next controversy is around the corner ;)

You don't have to go too far back ,and not all companies had TT bikes so the go to was a Cervelo or a one-off. Now it seems that everyone has a TT/Tri rig. But having a TT rig and having a good one are two different things. I would agree with you that its probably her bike.

Don't know about her bike, kit, helmet (although I must say, the bike looks a whole lot like the BeOne 42x16ss posted on the first page) but I do know she looks mega cool. All black. Brilliant :)

Edit: on closer inspection it's definitely the BeOne, exact same frame and it even has the little icon on the seat post.

Probably she practiced on it a lot and didn't want to change to an unknown bike at the last moment to avoid any discomfort or affecting her ride. Anyway she won and she can display the rainbow jersey on her team bike all year long which is why they didnot sack her.

Has everyone forgotten that Wilier is the same company that re-badged a Scott C1 frame, called it there own and gave it to Davide Rebillin (who then rode for Gerolsteiner). After he won the Amstel Gold race. Wilier denied that it was made by Scott, even after Scott had said it was their frame. They had the audacity to state that it was a sub 1000g frame that they had developed and was the lightest frame available at that time. Wilier has no right to complain about a rider that displays a similar regard for the truth. http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2004/news/jun25
