What's the problem? They overshot their goal of $100k by almost 25k, so, um, it looks like people actually want this. I'm sure their funds were depleted severely by D-bag lawers during the Specialized fiasco, and this is an honest way to raise money. Have friends that have benefited greatly in their careers through kickstarter. Good for Volagi!!!

I'm sorry? I didn't quite get your question. You have friends in high places is that your point? Maybe you should post on there given the wheel business. Didn't have one but now I do Hipster boy

A bike company asking for public donations for R&D?

Help them help you?

No not an IPO for sure

donation-

: the act or an instance of donating: as
a : the making of a gift especially to a charity or public institution
b : a free contribution : gift

Not sure of your point. Kickstarter has helped a lot of small business' w/o the loan, interest, payback type thing.

If ya don't want to 'donate', don't.

It is an interesting approach nonetheless. Nothing against it.

But alas answer these questions for me first before I click send

Why am I starting a business?
What kind of business do I want?
Who is my ideal customer?
What products or services will my business provide?
Am I prepared to spend the time and money needed to get my business started?
What differentiates my business idea and the products or services I will provide from others in the market?
Where will my business be located?
How many employees will I need?
What types of suppliers do I need?
How much money do I need to get started?
Will I need to get a loan?
How soon will it take before my products or services are available?
How long do I have until I start making a profit?
Who is my competition?
How will I price my product compared to my competition?
How will I set up the legal structure of my business?
What taxes do I need to pay?
What kind of insurance do I need?
How will I manage my business?
How will I advertise my business?

You are too confused for your own good, brah! If you didn't have a problem with it why did you start the thread? Even after almost 2 weeks since the kickstarter ended, and got more funding than they originally asked for. Flog a dead horse much?

I really don't know what to think of this. It all seems inspiring and enterprising. Yet desperate. and Denver Hoop guy, Im not talking about me yo. but you are

as for the design, the smallish head tube geometry on these bikes (especially the steel go anywhere bike) doesn't seem to fit their long time in the saddle pitch. all that cush in the rear yet so low and over the front wheel? Interesting.

For the record I kind of want one; a frame any way.

Is Kickstarter an alternative to venture funding, or a sales channel where people pre-purchase products. It's a little of both. Kickstarter does not want to be "a store" (they try to ensure that only projects with risk are listed). But if your project is funded, Kickstart is about the lowest cost sales channel on the planet.

The Viaje Kickstarter produced ~$110K after fees which will fund the production ramp for a cool bike. The contributors will get a product at a discount. Future customers will pay a little more. It's not "begging" it's win-win business sense.

Thanks
Full disclosure: A friend of the company.

Does the company factor in the money lost when they sell the discounted product? Just wondering. Altho $110,000 sounds like a lot, in the manufacturing game, it goes really fast.

And once the ramp is created, what's the break even point for the new, 'cool' bike? What if the numbers aren't there? Do they have a fallback plan? Other sources of funding?

Kickstarter is a one time deal, pretty much. Can't go back to that well very many times(mostly once).

So um do we get an accounting? banner adds are down. hmmmm

never seen one on the road. LBS had them early then dropped them because of alleged poor service.
