I tried that site already - sent e-mails and no reply.

I wouldnt be surprised if it were cancelled too but the organisers really dont help them selves by not advertising.

Dan Martin said how much he likes this race and it would be great if he could get involved in the promotion, in fact - all the pros that live in the area could help out.

Yeah, I can imagine that Dan Martin would like to see this race advertised... it's the one race in spring when he's not bothered by allergies.

I must have missed something, otherwise why does one of the oldest tours in the world, a PT event which gathers most of the best GC riders... why does it need some special advertising  They simply should not make this year's mistake of designing a route with just one mountain and numerous sprints for the likes of Dumoulin, Rojas or M.Cardoso at best. Not doing this anymore would be the best advertising IMO. It's a beautiful race just badly designed this year.

It's a race that's dying because of a lack of funds. There's no TV coverage. The reason the route sucked so hard is mostly that they can't afford to take the race to any interesting places.

The UCI should help rather than heading off to China.

But I cant help thinking the race could help itself.

If you had been there for the last couple of years you would see why it needs advertising.

The date change may help it this year and in the past it has been well supported by good fields but no TV coverage for a PT is unforgivable.

I don't know about anywhere else, but in Australia we got 30 minutes of highlights on Eurosport.

And how should the UCI help? Would it be with money?

And where does that money come from? The likes of Beijing, that's where.

Some people seem to think that UCI should be spending money, but shouldn't be earning it.

Now when people talk about a lack of TV coverage, do they mean that Spanish TV channels don't want to show the race, or they will if they can pay peanuts for it (ie only highlights), or the race organizer's are not very good at promoting their race? Or all three?

This year there was nearly 30 mins sporadic TV in Spain and the UK. Towns the race was visited were empty, the route was revealed only about a month prior to the race _ so much more could be done to make this a success.

So how do they plan to afford to host the start of the 2014 Tour de France then seeing as though they are bidding for the grand départ? Last time I heard, it doesn't come cheap.

In many ways the Tour is a different beast and much of what surrounds it has little to do with cycling. It's a tourism investment. You shouldn't take "literally no money" so literally. :p

Well of course there is some money there, but with some better/smarter promotion of the event, it can survive. But my question still stands seeing as though you do live in Spain, do TV channels there do not want to show the race? The coverage on CN is pretty weak, the same for the Tour of the Basque Country.

What happened to all that money they used to pay Ryanair ?

Tirrano Adriatico is a simlar event and gets plenty of coverage and good riders and is getting bigger and better every year.

T-A is used as a warmup for Sanremo and cobblestone classics so that helps with the field. Catalunya in theory has only Criterium International and Settimana Coppi and Bartali to compete with and offeres WT points so the field should be good as well.

Thinking about it, did everybody go to Criterium International in the years between Setmana Catalana disappearing and the Volta moving to it's place? I remember some good fields in CI then.
