Big stage. A few nice climbs but the little ramp at the end is what makes it interesting

Official prediction: Anton bags number 3. I really want Ezequiel to do well but i think he is waiting for the mountains.

Its gonna be interesting if Euskaltel manages to control the race/keep the time bonuses available, the two climbs + long descends definietly provide a good terrain for a breakaway group, even if there are 35k to the final climb after the last descend. Caisse d'Epargne could try something here...

Yeah if Anton thinks he can win then they may well try and be positive and try to get the time bonuses too. He didnt win by that much from Mosquera the other day and Mosquera went off too hard. A more measured effort could have seen Mosquera win so maybe he'll be the one for the win this time.

Moncoutie would like to scoop some points up early on but im not sure euskaltel will let him go as he isnt that far back time-wise. If they do let him go then it means keeping the break on a short leash. Random pick for the win is Di Gregorio to win from a break.

good short climb. Tough last km.

go mosqeura :)

Actually Mosquera is not as good on these short climbs as the longer ones.
Check his results on Xorret de Cati this year, but also last year. It were his worst days...

So again, I don't think this will be fantastic for Mosquera but it might be just long enough to get into a rythm, since the steepest part is at the end. That is maybe an advantage.

I'm contradicting myself here but the point is I'm not entirely sure wether this kind of climb suits Mosquera. I think he prefers a climb at least 5/6 km longer

Bad replica of the first and only Vuelta stage that visited the place.

It was in 1979, the first year the Vuelta was in Unipublic hands. The profile is similar but the course went down a different valley. Mountain passes were closer to the finish then and had more technical descents. Dutch fans might like to know that this is the place where Zoetemelk got the yellow jersey he retained till the end of the race.

No rain and no technical downwills tomorrow. Don't expect poor bike handlers suffering or anyone being caught at the back trying to get a raincoat from the team car like Valverde 2008 :D

We'll surely see a repetition of Catí

No matter how much I want Anton to win, I still think Rodriguez will get his revenge with this stage. He won't do the same mistake again and everyone will be watching Anton now

Yeah good point. Right before i read your last sentence i had the idea myself. This is a stage were Caisse could try to break Euskatel. Bruzhegin is their best chance so let him rest. Uran maybe too. But LLS, Arroyo, Plaza should keep trying to get in a break. A break on this stage could succeed so it will kill Euskatel.

Thanks for all the work, Hitch.

I guess Anton can't surprise anyone any more. I'll pick an escapee to win the stage, and hope Nibali can gain some time on more of the GC guys.

Spanish TVE announced today that they will have extended live coverage tomorrow starting just after 15:00 CET. If the race is not entertaining that early, the landscape will.

This climb might be just short enough for Nibali to actually stay with it and plant a small attack yeah.
But the time gained will be lost double, if not triple, on La Covadonga. So he'd best save as much effort as possible to somehow keep following on sunday

At least it promises to be interesting. The last two days have been almost as bad as Tour de France stages. Godawful.

Caisse to go for broke with multiple people, Moncoutié and either Martínez, Rabuñal or both to get in the break, Gilbert to try to struggle in top 15 to gain points even though he's got no chance at the jersey, and Caisse to chase down any attack with Katyusha, Liquigas or Xacobeo guys in because of the teams classification.

It looks perfect for Rodriguez. Very steep and quite short. It could suit Tondo too snd I think Uran could be the modt likely of the Caisse guys to attack.

Chance of a break staying away but the one bonus of the bonus seconds (I'm here all week!!) is that it's an extra incentive for riders to chase the breaks.

What mistake did Rodriguez make last time? I didn't watch the stage.

I do believe if he has the legs, he will win either today or tomorrow. Probably today.

He fell for Ezes trap.

Him Mosquera and Nibali went early. Everyone who didnt go took the climb at their own pace and did it the fastest they could. Mosquera Nibali and Rodriguez tired themselves out from 4-2.5 km and had little left for the last 2.5 km.

Cheers Hitch.

I thought it was the beginning of the end for him this Vuelta.

Then again, Rodriguez did lose more time than the others. Mosquera managed to hold on to 2nd. Nibali did the exact same thing as Purito in following Mosquera. By the end everyone was flying by Nibali. He came in 20 seconds down.
Rodriguez lost 50 seconds on the other hand so more than the others, so it could be signs of fatigue, or just that he tired himself out constantly doing sprints the days before.
