WC Richmond 2015 TTT, 20 September

Team-Time-Trial-Elevation-Map.gif

Date: 20 september
Distance: 38.8 km.
Elevation: 240 m.

Since there was no thread yet about the TTT, I thought it was time to start one. I really like this event, so that's my second reason. ;) Let's talk about it!

Relatively short TTT, not very technical. Short hill at the finish.

Favourites: BMC, Orica, Etixx

The women race the same course and distance just before, which is a change from last year and I guess a policy decision. Consequently the men's course is 18km shorter this year, and the women's about 8km longer. Should be fast.

BMC should be too strong for this with both Phinney and Dennis, but OGE (they've got the experience) and EQS (Martin) will make it very close.

Sky won't have Froome (maybe Thomas too) and Kiryienka didn't do as good an ITT in the Vuelta as we'd expected, so I don't think they'll podium.

Odd for them to have Viviani but not Sitsov. Also with Thomas surely out, and Roche must be questionable with his injuries, there are spots for Knees and maybe... Poels?

Another reason why they shouldn't win is lack of Porte.

Which types of riders gain from the shorter distance in a TTT?
Faster, punchier riders, rather than the big TT diesels. Think pursuiters/leadouts/prologuers. The long TT specialists will still be useful though.

As an example, an Etixx team with the likes of Boonen, Renshaw, Trentin, Terpstra, Meersman and Martin would be very hard to beat here.

BMC is the big favorite here. Their team for this is incredible: Oss, Gilbert, Dennis, Dillier, Quinziato, Velits, GVA, Küng, Phinney.
From that list I'd take Dennis, Küng, Phinney, Velits, Oss and Quinziato or Gilbert. With 3 pursuiters in there they'll be riding nice and tight too.

Hard to see the podium being anything other than BMC, Etixx and Orica. Movistar would be next best.

Having seen TCS' team i wouldn't underestimate them either.

Yeah, Sagan, Bodnar, Juul-Jensen, Rogers, Boaro and Valgren is a very decent squad - the only thing Tinkoff could do better is to replace Valgren with Bennati or Contador, but otherwise this is a top TTT squad (especially since it is a little bit shorter).

It's been dry here for a week and the roads are very good, weather is excellent, so they should have the best conditions for racing, assuming their team cars don't drive into a ditch (are you listening, Etixx?).

Lotto-Jumbo aiming for top 8. What do you guys think, possible? Team: Gesink, Kelderman, Leezer, Vanmarcke, van Emden, Tjallingi.
Seriously? They only aim for top 8?
I think they have a team to fight for a better position looking at the results in TTs of Van emden, kelderman , gesink and even Vanmarcke, but it is true that in the TTT they don´t show all their full potential.

The opposite is orica that with guys like Hepburn, durbridge and tuft (that are not stronger than wilco and van emden in my opinon), they finish in the podium.
