Controversial coach building long-term project, eyes return to the professional peloton.

It's no more absurd than anything else going on in cycling right now.

Saiz was the inventor of marginal gains...he was screaming "VENGA VENGA!!!" into a loud speaker to spur on his riders, which clearly increased their hct, before it was cool...

My dog liked that "Venga, Venga!" too when we went for a bike ride! :D

What's the problem with him coming back? I mean Vaughters f/e is still involved in cycling and at least Saiz never doped :D

Not only that, but Sáinz deserves respect for creating opportunities for u-23 riders in Spain.

How many new Spanish projects with long-term backing have come online in recent years?...

Hipster Saiz was alone the biggest marginal gain there ever was.

But seriously, is this more controversial then anything going down in the Astanas, Tinkoffs and/or Skies of this world? Perhaps he is a more controversial figure but then again this is the current state of cycling and it get what it deserves.

New clean generation? Pff...

Absolutely not. Lefevere is still around, and it is only the luck of the draw (or someone at the UCI picking and choosing bad guys) that it was Saiz and not someone like that.

I will say that for pure entertainment value, this year's Tour should be quite spectacular...I only wish I could hear that "VENGA VENGA!!!" as part of it.

That's right. It could just as easily have been Lefevre, Riis, Bruyneel (well maybe not him), Pevenage etc

Except there is no proof that Lefevre and Riis have run team doping programs, only here-say and speculation. Bruyneel is rightly banned from the sport, as should Saiz be.
