Basecase said:As Cycling Ireland members contemplate backing Pat for a 3rd term, can Clinic readers give reason as to why he doesn't deserve nomination?
Fus087 said:He disregarded the UCI's sanction on South Africa during apartheid to ride there under a pseudonym.
In my opinion, that alone disqualifies him from ever holding office in that same institution.
Basecase said:So 61 pages of a previous thread need to be read???
Is there nowhere with a consise summary of the issues with him!??
You think I am joking?Basecase said:Wow great humour doc
So in the most voice anti doping forum I know of, at a crucial time for Cycling Ireland members to forumulate an opinion on Pat McQuaid's ability to govern, no one here is that interested in compiling his biggest flaws.
What if I start then?
1. He failed to insist that LA serve 6 month test period in advance of 09.
2. He permitted certain tests on LA to stop a month or 2 before 09 TDF.
3. Life bans still not available.
Come in guys, I know you can too that!
Don't be as apathetic as CI members were up until now.
"His contribution to cycling has been enormous, from both the sporting point of view and his personality. All sports need global icons and he has become a global icon for cycling," said McQuaid, speaking to The Associated Press by telephone from the Tour of Oman. "The sport of cycling has a lot to be thankful for because of Lance Armstrong."
I always thought he was born in Ireland?ChewbaccaD said:Start with South Africa and move your way up in time...

D-Queued said:Look, I invested A LOT of time researching and posting many, many McQuaid transgressions, quotes and actions in that thread.
I was not alone.
That thread is the most concise and complete accounting that I am aware of. It was designed to be exactly the receptacle that you are looking for.
Suggesting that it be further summarized is disrespectful of the fact that other folks have already done your homework for you.
Please do the 0.1% of equivalent research by at least quickly reading through the thread.
Dave.

Dr. Maserati said:61 pages is concise.

DirtyWorks said:+1 It's all good times and righteous indignation until there's a little work to be done.
On the simple fact he rode in Aparthied-era South Africa should have been sufficient for the nomination to fail years ago. Instead, it just strengthens the idea that the UCI is corrupted from the top down.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid_in_South_Africa
Since reading such a voluminous web page appears to be a challenge:
Apartheid forbade multiracial sport,
(South Africa P.M) Vorster stated that blacks were intellectually inferior and had no finesse for the game. (cricket)
It just gets worse politically and Pat was good with all of it. If you've bothered to read this far...
