Good idea, but done to death here and a big job to regurge (I certainly dont have the energy any more).

Easier to list the good things he has done.

Here they are.

That should settle it.

As Cycling Ireland members contemplate backing Pat for a 3rd term, can Clinic readers give reason as to why he doesn't deserve nomination?

There is a HUGE thread (601 posts) on this already:

"another interesting piece I found on the UCI and president Pat McQuaid " Thread
http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=15417

If that doesn't provide enough material, a number of items were also incorporated in this thread:

Kimmage unleashes hell, counter-sues Verbruggen & McQuaid
http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=19252

More than enough direct quotes to sink his ship.

Dave.

He disregarded the UCI's sanction on South Africa during apartheid to ride there under a pseudonym.
In my opinion, that alone disqualifies him from ever holding office in that same institution.

But that was known prior to last time he was elected and he still got in.

What has come to light in past few years?

Wow great humour doc

So in the most voice anti doping forum I know of, at a crucial time for Cycling Ireland members to forumulate an opinion on Pat McQuaid's ability to govern, no one here is that interested in compiling his biggest flaws.

What if I start then?

1. He failed to insist that LA serve 6 month test period in advance of 09.
2. He permitted certain tests on LA to stop a month or 2 before 09 TDF.
3. Life bans still not available.

Come on guys, I know you can do that!

Don't be as apathetic as CI members were up until now.

You think I am joking?

There is a lot of stuff on McQuaid that I will post when I get to work PC.

But in the meantime a quote from McQuaid when Armstrong retired for the second time in 2011.
"His contribution to cycling has been enormous, from both the sporting point of view and his personality. All sports need global icons and he has become a global icon for cycling," said McQuaid, speaking to The Associated Press by telephone from the Tour of Oman. "The sport of cycling has a lot to be thankful for because of Lance Armstrong."

I always thought he was born in Ireland?

He raced illegally with Sean Kelly under an assumed name during the apartheid era when there was an international cycling ban on participating in South Africa. McQuaid got a life time ban on competing in the Olympics. It is sort of ironic that he later was a member of an IOC commission.

Thanks doc. Look forward to seeing more

Look, I invested A LOT of time researching and posting many, many McQuaid transgressions, quotes and actions in that thread.

I was not alone.

That thread is the most concise and complete accounting that I am aware of. It was designed to be exactly the receptacle that you are looking for.

Suggesting that it be further summarized is disrespectful of the fact that other folks have already done your homework for you.

Please do the 0.1% of equivalent research by at least quickly reading through the thread.

+1 It's all good times and righteous indignation until there's a little work to be done.

On the simple fact he rode in Aparthied-era South Africa should have been sufficient for the nomination to fail years ago. Instead, it just strengthens the idea that the UCI is corrupted from the top down.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid_in_South_Africa
Since reading such a voluminous web page appears to be a challenge:

Apartheid forbade multiracial sport,

(South Africa P.M) Vorster stated that blacks were intellectually inferior and had no finesse for the game. (cricket)

It just gets worse politically and Pat was good with all of it. If you've bothered to read this far...

So 61 pages of a previous thread need to be read???

Is there nowhere with a consise summary of the issues with him!??

61 pages is concise.

It's only 61 pages - have you read the "Sky" thread????

To the OP, you're not being forced to read 61 pages. Just change your forum account settings to show the maximum number of posts per page (40) like me and you will only have to read 16 pages. Sounds a lot easier, doesn't it? :)

If he participated in the Apartheid era, he should be kicked out of any sports instantly. Why aren't the African Sport bodies taking any action on this:mad:

Those of you that have visited the Giro will know that the " Following Year's Grand Depart , has a stall out in the Public Sponsors' area .

Yesterday i spotted a " phat clone " , so addressed a few questions to him, started with a remark that " he looked like a mc Quaid , which he confirmed , then he shed further light by revealing his name as " Kiernan "!

Where upon i asked what his relationship was to " James Burn " , he replied it was his brother !

OOPs , he tthen realised that foot was in mouth , turned to the other guy at this stall , muttered a few words , then departed the scene ! the other guy got on the phone with his back to me and endeavoured to convey the message that he was not going to talk to me .

When i tried to engage the " girls/ladies , working this stand , he shook his head to indicate they not respond ! None of these females appear to be Irish , but then why employ Irish to promote Ireland to Italians ?

Could this be another Mc Quaid enterprise that is funded by the Irish Tax payer ?

I presume there are clinic readers that could do as i did , send a message " On the ground ", that James burn/mc quaid , has plenty to answer for EVEN BEFORE , cycling Ireland , get to decide about a possible nomination ?

Each day i will be looking to hammer the james burn story , as i will also be seeking answers to WHY , Matt White was scapegoated by Orica , and yet the " star " of the festina 1998 event , is allowed to influence Aussie Racers !

Another Aussie at the Giro , told me he was not happy with the results of a discussion he had with thsat party , in recent times . NOONE can believe that an ADULT , will ingest a substance that they do not understand , would thay ? OOPs , i don't understand Spanish , but the guy is my boss , " so she'll be Apples 2 , does not excuse childish excuses ?
