What can Cunego do in the Tour?

Really like the little prince. What can he do in July?

Hope he shows himself like in the 09 Vuelta.

Seriously doubt he can make a serious tilt at GC but a top 15 may be possible along with a stage.

Looking good in the Suisse so far. He's a positive rider and always tries to have a go.

top 10 + stage wins
the life and the lesson learned that he's not immune just like the others made him again a tough guy.he's the best cunego i've seen since a long time.still he talked shiit and acted like a biitch so many times, there's now way i would cheer for him in le tour.

Top 10 and stage wins. He should just go for the latter.

Although the stages that suit him suit Gilbert even better.

He should go for stage win(s), it will be hard because of Gilbert but he should try. Of course if someone like Hesjedal can reach the top-10 so Cunego can do it too, but, honestly, who cares about such a top-10?

He will def try to win Desgrande prize for the highest mountain pass. Its sad that he has kinda given up on GC ambititions. I wouldnt discount him on Polka dot contention, even though that competition is quite ambiguous these days.

Possible stage wins, but most likely only top 3 with no win.

Top 30 gc just - he will have a day where he comes 15 min behind the GC guys in the moutains.

Between Gilbert, Cavendish and Contador, I think all 21 stages are settled, pretty much?

The problem Cunego has is that he's not good enough to be a genuine GC threat, but he's too good to let have any rope, so he'd need to voluntarily drop a bunch of time in order to go for the KOM.

What Libertine said is very true, genuine contender for KoM, he'd be a nice winner of the comp imo.. But I don't see the favourites let him go... He'd have to lose time like last year before getting into breaks...

I wouldn't actually be surprised if Gilbert won more stages than Cav when looking at this year's Tour

It's like Prudhomme made this course with Gilbert in mind to be honest. Or with Voeckler in mind after being drunk and then sobering up when he realized Gilbert exists.

I expect very little for Cunego. I listen to you guys and others talk him up and he basically never delivers anything in the TdF.

Mostly because he climbed well at Suisse.

Wait, is Gilbert riding the Tour?

I agree. I think he won the White jersey for best young rider, one year or was he second ? But since winning the Giro he has not delivered in the TDF. One year he had a bad crash and pulled out.

Possible stage winner and top 20 finish.

Possibly a top 10 shot and a stage win, only problem is as others have already mentioned is that the stages that he could go for they are also tailor made for Gilbert, and you could throw the likes of Voeckler in there as well. But hopefully he can prove me wrong because it would certainly make this a more interesting tour.

That's the problem, the stages that suit Cunego also suit guys like Chavanel, Vino, LL Sanchez, Van Avermaet, Kroon and the other Ardennes style riders. And that's after you take Gilbert and Voeckler out of consideration.

I'd love to see Cunego have a TdF like Chavanel last year and LL Sanchez the year before, but it's impossible to look past Gilbert for that role.

I think he could win one of the following
( stage 1, hard enough racing and bad road conditions )
( stage 4 has some aspects of Northen/ Ardennes classics/ expect Gilbert to take it)
( stage 5 if he latches on with a break/ racing is hard )
( stage 8 just like he tried last yr in the Massif so he shall again this yr )
( stage 10 short/ punchy. His best chance )
( stage 16 if he can descend well ?????? )

That is all. He seems to be in good form and it would be a good card to allievate pressure for Lampre to chase breakaways in sprints.

Cunego

Have just watched him win stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse, Closed a gap of 2 mins in 5 kilo's to the top of the last climb, and then there was the greatest filming of a 9 km descent following him , hope someone puts it on U Tube.
Now race leader by almost a minute.
Easily top ten , will be let down by the time trials, but if he climbs withe top guys should be top 5..
