Wow, that's pretty bad of somebody to steal somebodies identity. Scum of the earth for mine.

Every year there is a thread like this one on Slowtwitch, whether it is somebody cheating by using fins during the swim, a guy crapping all over himself and not bothering to stop and clean it up, or whatever. A thread gets started. The culprits are tracked down. Hilarity ensues. It's all good.

That is insane. Makes doping look legitimate. The best thing I got from that thread though is this YouTube vid:

Hi-f'n-larious!

Aack! I started watching that vid with the sound muted and started to freak when I saw the snake in the bush...ON TOP of the bush...
where is that so I can stay away from that part of the country??:D

Oh, sweet. The cheater posted to the thread. He was carrying the timing chip in his back pocket so he could turn it in at finishing area. He didn't realize that it would be picked up by the timing mats. And he was wearing a race number so the officials would not harrass him while he went sight seeing on the course to kill time.

This could be better than finman.

Awesome. What was finman?

Personally I think just the fact that someone would be a big enough doosh to try to call attention to himself by wearing a sign like that is funny enough, but that he cheated during the Ironman makes it hilariously pathetic. It sums up everything that triathlon has become: Simply finishing an event so you can brag to your family, neighbors, and coworkers. Leadville has gone the same way.

Parera's link does not include the subsequent Finman Challenge or that the unclaimed fins were eventually auctioned on Ebay.

I think some of the Slowtwitch threads have been locked away. Slowtwitch is like that.

EDIT: I found the Finman Challenge thread. http://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/S...n_Forum_F1/Guess_whos_back.__Finman._P2522052

These people are truly weird.

I met Chrissie Wellington once, though, and she's about as gracious and up front as could be.

My theory is that at the top level everything's up front and cool, but then there all those mid-pack strivers. Tri is so new and there seems to be SO MUCH OPPORTUNITY, and the training is so consuming, that the temptation to a dork must be pernicious.

Road cycling suffers the same crap. Some CAT 3 racer that thinks s/he is hot **** on a bike, a Master's alpha ****** Golf Transplant toolbag that talks **** on the road, etc. That attitude is just sad to me, they (the DELUSIONAL mid-pack strivers) suck all the fun out of their hobby and use it as a way to feel superior to other people.

On Slowtwitch, you can post on a thread, start a thread etc etc with the absolute best intentions, and invariably, it will turn to custard. It's literally scattered with Polish types.

I go with that, I came across this boorish cat 3 vet when i was a junior racer during training rides and spent most of the time hoping the ****er would be hit and squished by a white van.

Triathletes can be weird though. Most are probably fitness fanatics that like to boast of their exploits to their completely disinterested work colleagues on a Monday morning I suspect.
