I don't know if this topic was covered in another thread, but I am curious what others think.
Does Basso still win?
In fact if Pellizotti had raced Sastre probably doesn't crash five times, Wigans doesn't the lose pink after the first day, and Evans never gets pink in the first place.
More importantly with Pellizotti racing, does the 12 minute break on stage # whatever still occur?
I say it doesn't.
Resulting in that 12 minute break was also top 10 finishes from two young guns (Porte and Kiserlovski). Lets say the break never happens: they then don't try as hard in the final week, never realize the full potential they have in a grand tour, and lose out on that mental toughness gained that makes hardened champions.
Now I'm saying either is going to be spitting out grand tour wins, however the mere fact that Pellizotti did not raced had a direct effect on the growth of two young riders. Maybe neither would have realized their full potential without this Giro.
Its a little "Run Lola Run"esque, but its crazy how Pellizotti's misfortune was the ultimate gain for Kiserlovski and Porte's.
Thoughts?
