Cyclingnews.com Forum has been great in creating solutions for the problems that inevitably arise in a forum as large this. I found some good directions on how to use the IGNORE FEATURE, but I haven't seen any suggestions regarding WHEN to use it. So, in the interest of clarity (and as a Junior Member still learning the ropes), I thought I'd list some possible reasons for using the ignore feature. This is by no means to be considered a complete list, feel free to add.

IT'S TIME TO USE THE IGNORE FEATURE WHEN THE OFFENDING POSTER:
1. threatens to come after you with every sock puppet in his arsenal.
2. tries to convince you that Bag Balm on crackers is a good recovery snack.
3. he claims that he's watching every move you make with a high powered telescope.
4. he keeps calling you "mommy".
5. he just won't get past the Cav/Sky issue.
6. claims that by merely reading his posts you'll test positive for banned substances.
