Which GPS computer should I buy?

Just bought my first proper road bike and obviously I want to have all the gear to disguise the fact that I have no idea.
Any recommendations for a GPS tracker and/or any other accessories/necessities would be appreciated.

Garmin, it's the best there is and will do everything and more depending on which model you go with.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Would you recommend a watch or a mounted one?

If you have to have one, get a bar-mounted one. (Disclaimer - I haven't ridden with a computer of any kind for over 10 years. Tried Strava once with my iPhone and couldn't be bothered with that, either ;))

I concur with the nods towards Garmin.

I have a Garmin Edge 200, it's good for plotting routes and uploading to strava (or wherever) but doesn't do much else. However it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the current range (510,810,1000) so I think it's ideal for a first purchase.

Edit: Oh and definitely go bar mounted one, the bigger screen size is a lot more helpful if following a course - plus it just displays more information without constantly having to press buttons. The watches are more targeted towards runners.

Depends what you want it to do.

For just providing a track of where you've been, then the smallest cheapest one.

If you want a mapping one, so that you can plot a route on googlemaps/bike route toaster etc, then download it onto your GPS and have it navigate you then Garmin 705 or 810 are the ones to go for.

I'd definitely agree, go with a bar mount. Don't know what your budget is but for a model I'd recommend the 500. It does everything you need including HR and cadence (and power if you have a power meter). And it isn't too expensive (especially when compared to the higher up 810 and others).

Or you could just go for broke and go with the latest 1000 for 600. :D

I'm not too bothered with the mapping features.
I'd like as many stats as possible.

I wouldn't discount it.

UK based? Have a look at bikehike.co.uk.

Click on course creator, then just plot a 40 mile route from your house using roads you've never used before. You can click on elevation to give you a profile.

Download it straight into a mapping unit and itll navigate
You like a car satnav.

To be honest, it was a revelation to me. I discovered amazing roads i never knew existed.
