Who will beat Cav in the Sprint stage(s) of The Tour?

Will it be Sagan who dominated sprints in the Tour of Swiss and California?

Will it be speedy american Tyler Farar?

Will it be Greipel who was the only rider to outsprint Cav in the Tour last year?

Or will it be rival German, Marcel Kittel from Argos?

This one might get closed too.

sagan, kittel, greipel all can beat him.
Farrar has been very bad this season.

Also Goss. I'm assuming Cavendish really has lightened up and lost a little speed as it appeared in the Ster ZLM Tour.
So there you go.

I bet they will be outclassed by sagan, otherwise cav dominates.

but there's always the first sprinter stage for cav to loose :)

I think both Greipel and Kittel will get the better of him in the TDF. Cavendish isn't in his top sprinting shape at the moment after losing all that weight. He won't have a dominant leadout either.

kittel and greipel will win most of the sprints.
because of the weight loss, cav won't win much on the flat, but probably he will target the hilly stages to prepare himself for the olympics
he will own seraing and boulogne sur mer stages as an example

Kittel seems the fastest at the moment. I'm just worried that he won't make it to the final of a single Tour stage, at his level of climbing.

Although we all know that in big races, Cav can do something extra. The Ster ZLM Toer doesn't interest him. But losing 4 kgs has to affect your speed somewhat.

I have to bring one more name to the list, all things being considered: EBH..

They're teammates. You really think that if Cavendish is in the group that comes to the finish, Sky will let EBH go for his own goals rather than lead out?

On an uphill finish perhaps, but on the flat ones, no way Jose.

Kittel. And maybe Greipel if he gets lucky.

This year is their best chance. Cav will be focusing on the Olympics (hence the weight loss). Next year he'll be after the green jeersey again.

Kittel and Greipel assuredly have the pace to beat him and it all depends on positioning.

Sagan can also beat him but only on the uphill finishes where it will be Sagan, Cav and Gilbert battling it out.:)

I dont think Goss can but if OGE do a repeat of their fantastic Giro leadouts and Sky do a repeat of their relatively poor ones then Goss could certainly beat Cav.

Yet once again everyone seems to be underestimating Cav. There are always doubts of him coming into to the Tour and he always proves them wrong. The Tour is where he shines more than any other sprinter.

I voted Greipel because Lotto seems to be running well.

Sagan will continue to surprise, but he really that good? I hope so, the more competition, the better!

Isn't Sagan more of an uphill sprint guy? Can he actually challenge Cav, Greipel and Kittel in a pure sprint? He'll still win stages, though.

EBH might get a stage, even a sprint stage if Cav is having a bad day (like in the Tirreno-Adriatico), but will obviously never compete with him.

My guess is Cav takes more stage wins than anyone else, but fewer than he has the last few years, and not the jersey.

Sagan will dominate the sprints just like he dominated in California and Switzerland.

I don't underestimate Cav, he is the Black Caviar of this field but I am pretty confident that Gossy will be a main player. He has adjusted his early season to be right for the Tour and he will have a team dedicated to getting him to the finish. Impey, Lancaster, Albasini and possibly Baden Cooke will be a pretty impressive lead out....only problem is that I think Cav will be like Robbie McEwan in this tour and just sit on some of his old mates. He can just tuck in behind Gossy or Renshaw or any of the other trains for that matter. Keep an eye on Impey, he is in sensational form and if Goss isn't up for a sprint, it won't surprise if he pops up for a win.

My tip, take the Black Caviar (in London this Saturday)/Goss double as Cav will be too short to back.

Sagan does look fantastic but it will be interesting to see how "real" a form line the ToC and Swiss tours are. He beat Cooke, Davis and Swift in Switzerland but comes up against their teams number ones in Cav and Goss at the Tour. Time will tell.

I can't decide for my fantasy team either... I only want a max of two sprinters, and I have Kittel cuz he is super cheap, but Cav, Sagan, and Gossy are alll about the same. I am leaning toward Sagan right now though.

.

Sagan isn't a pure sprinter so he wouldn't be able to take on those three on a pancake flat wide open course. However, Sagan has strong short distance TT skills so he can ride hard in the wind and still put in an amazing punch at the end. He's also very technical so any flat finishes with turns or narrow areas in them will benefit Sagan enormously for positioning, where, again, he can ride hard in the wind and still win.

A lot will do with how Nibali performs. If Nibali really shows weak form and falls off the GC ladder, Sagan will be even better supported.

I agree he didn't compete with the best sprinters but on the other hand most of these wins seemed quite easy for him... Some of them were close, when he lost stability and took his foot off the pedal 100m before the finish or almost colided with barier but generally it often looked easy. So, if it was in 2011 I would say Cav, Kittel, but we'll see if he's not stronger this year.

I'd say Greipel, but he tends to fail the expectations in big events. I am unsure about Sagan, winning at the TdS against a bunch of mediocre sprinters is one thing, but winning at the Tour against the pure sprint elite might be a different story. BTW, I wonder how Sky will cope with supporting one sprint- and one GC-leader. Reminds me of good old Telekom days (like the riding style of Wiggins remembers me of Ullrich).
