Who will crack this weekend?

Seeing as though we are about to enter three days of hell at the Giro (for the riders, not the fans :D), which of the big names going for GC will crack and lose huge chunks of time?

For mine I believe Scarponi and Rodríguez will struggle, if their Etna performances are anything to go by. I also think Nibali and Kreuziger might have a few problems as well.

I don't expect Nibali to really crack. I do expect him to lose quite a few minutes simply because he isn't made for these extreme mountains.
Well not compared to Contador atleast.

He will keep his pace just so he won't blow up.

Scarponi, Menchov, Kreuziger and many more will crack. There will be huge gaps on saturday.

The only one I'm not sure about is Rodriguez. I don't consider him to be the great climber some people think he is. However this is all really steep stuff so his weight is allready a benefit.

Contador won't crack. He's simply too good. Let's hope he won't be the invincible rider he is right now though. It will make this Giro a lot more interesting.

Gadret. maybe, he's performed so well on etna and the stage 11. Scarponi has already cracked in my view, showing his full hand yet not matching contador it was Mano VS CLING ON TO WHEEL AND HE COULD NOT DO THAT, already so i would classify him as cracked. Rodriguez will crack but will be guided by Moreno. Anton, Rujano and Contador to dominate these mountains.

I'll say only four guys will be within six minutes of the first GC guy (I would say pink jersey but it may be handed over to a breakaway for a day or two) after Sunday's stage.

it's same thing except crack you smoke the cocaine. and are like in some sort of crystals instead of powder.

no they are little pieces, like small rocks you put in your cigarette or whatever and smoke with the rest of your cigarette. you could also inject it with a needle if you heat it up so it becomes flued. it's the basic form of cocaine

not that this is probably a spectacular prediction but.....

I expect one of the big names to crack dramatically, not to come in a couple of minutes down, but with the lead group (final 10-15 guys) as the last climb arrives and to completely lose the ability to turn the pedals, losing 20+ minutes.

someone to actually break, not just lose a wheel. nibali, scarponi, arroyo, kreuziger, cataldo, menchov, rodriguez, serpa, lokvist, siustov are all candidates of greater or lesser likelihood (or surprise).

hope i worded this how i mean it, but a spectacular, late stage (as opposed to dropped on the first climb) collapse of a name who has followed for too long and is reduced to weaving all over the road at a slow walking pace.

that's just the case in south america, over here in europe and in the states you get a load of different things you don't wanna know about

You might. Fortunately not taking drugs provides excellent security against such risks for most people.

How about we talk about how might fail this weekend? I'm guessing everyone will look below their best at some point, and the winners of the weekend will manage it better - having said that I can't quite rule out Bertie winning all 3.

I'm hoping Contador will crack today, which would mean that he needs to attack tomorrow, sunday or some other day, it would also open up the GC a bit. I do not think this will be the case.

I think that Le Mevel, Siutsov, perhaps Garzelli and probably Arroyo will crack

Maybe the whole of Saxo except AC will Crack today and then Saturday will be out of control with people lining up to have a go.

I suppose what we mean by Crack - find the elite group too good for them and head off at their own pace, or badly die on the bike and have to knock off the pace to well below their ability for the rest of the climb.

I think all of the less than stellar guys near the front will suffer the former, don't have much of a feeling for who will do the latter - perhaps Jrod.

Scarponi will crack big time this weekend

I am soooo hoping this is not the case, although my gut feeling is that you are correct

Contador won't crack. Rujano will lose some time and the rest will be variable crackers. Sastre will disappear quickly but it's hard to know how Menchov will cope. I would like to see him come good but I have my doubts. Will be interested in how Gadret and Rodriguez go.

I reckon everyone will lost big time to Contador, with the exception of Rujano, who's already to far back to take the fight to him, sadly enough.

Be interesting to see what those two can do on Crostis/Zonc, i reckon Rujano might be able to follow the acceleration's easier on the steeper stuff, oddly enough.
