Why Cadel Evans will not gain enough time on Andy Schleck in the TT.

With the end of the tour drawing near and with the mountain stages weeding out the so called pretenders, and the previous champion Alberto Contador, a new era begins. This is an era where Andy Schleck will dominate the tour.

Most people believe Cadel Evans can make up the time, but the reality is that Cadel is racing for second. Here is the secret as to why:

First reason is because as Andy Schleck put it, the Maillot Jaune is said to "Give you wings." Vockler demonstrated this throughout the mountain stages, raising his ability to another level. It is certainly reasonable to believe that Andy could do the same.

Second reason is team radios. Andy will always know the time gap between him and Evans as he will be the last one to go in the time trial. Being last has a huge advantage.

Lastly, the profile of the time trial stage actually favors Andy since it is hilly. And with the enormous effort that Cadel has put in the mountain stages, you wonder if he has enough left in the tank to pull out a solid performance.

I admire Cadel Evans, he has had a great tour. But there are just too many variables going against him. Fact is, Cadel knows he needed yellow to have a real shot at winning the tour. But the reality is he'll be racing for second place in the time trial.

Admit it. You watch the Tour on Versus and can't get enough of Bob Roll.

I really don't think that Andy will dominate the Tour in the forthcoming years well unless the ASO carry on with the lack of ITT km's, this year he had a rather large dollup of luck and even with that this years tour is hardly nailed on.

And here is why Evans WILL gain enough time on Andy Schleck

1) Evans is a superior time trial specialist
2) A mountain course might have suited Andy better. But on hills, Evans is at least his equal if not better. (Fleche Wallone anyone?). A hilly TT course therefore suits Evans just as much, if not more, than Schleck
3) Evans did the ITT before in the Dauphine. Andy Schleck admitted he hasn't ridden it and didn't even do a recon of it!(!!!!)
4) Andy Schleck gave a lot of energy in 2 monster flights the past two days. I think he gave more energy than Evans there
5) The yellow jersey can give you wings but it can also paralyze you and make you block.

;)

Are you ignoring the enormous effort Andy has put in the past few stages? I think you are. Andy, Frank and all of Leopard knew Andy needed more than the minute he has on Evans to hold him off in the ITT. Andy's attempts to drop Evans on multiple occasions is evidence of his recognition of his need for more time. It's natural for him to exhibit false bravado saying he's confident that the Tour is won. Unfortunately even Andy's dad, an ex-pro doesn't think Andy can do it unless Evans has a bad day.

Dude you need to lay off AS kool aid. Evans, AS, FS, and all of the top riders all know AC owns them without the Giro. New era my nuts!

If 2 people are giving 100% how does any information help go faster.

There is no excuse for both, Andy knowing Cadel is eating his time may stress him and do th opposite of help.

Cadel has been the equal of Andy in Andys house this tour. Andy is in Cadels House now and its going to be wet.

I can see this being the best chance he will ever have.

57 seconds over 43k? Cadel will take a minute out of Andy in the first 15k. Cadel has been ITTing for 3 days already this week once it's him against the clock in will go to suffer level 10 and destroy the little rolling route

As far as Andy dominating the Tour in the coming years---good luck with that. In a year that he had the self-proclaimed strongest team in the Tour by far, an injured and fatigued defending champion, multiple gc contenders crashed out, and one other not invited, it took a desparate epic attack to get himself within reach of the leader's jersey. He had a healthy Frank and yet they both stumbled about the entire Tour. Andy has been less than impressive with the exception of his epic attack. For a rider that your saying will dominate the event for years to come he sure isn't looking like the juggernaut that you're dreaming about.

And a route created JUST for a rider like him. Next year it's probably an ITT instead of a TTT.

I think we can all agree that CE will probably take time out of AS tomorrow, but a minute is a lot to pull back over a 41km ITT. It'll be very close.

That's the thing. Lately, the Tours have been designed for climbers. When was the last time there was prologue AND 2 ITTs of decent length?

I hope that you're accurate. I'd like to see Cadel finally get it. Andy has done a lot of work over the past couple of days. He really impressed me with his performance in the valley on Thurday's stage. If he wins that Tour, that is where he won it.
