Why is Cav wearing rainbow stripes in Manchester?

A photo on the BBC site shows Cav wearing WC stripes on the track at the Revolution event

I thought the stripes could only be worn in the discipline you won them in (e.g. no wearing road race stripes in an ITT), and on the track they are clear that stripes can only be worn in the specific event you are champion in, so how come he is wearing road race stripes on the track?

I don't buy the pompous ***** thing - the crowd would love to see the jersey and apart from the ToB it is possibly the only time it will be seen in Britain (and certainly the only time with HTC sponsorship)

The question is why it is allowed? I guess the 'local event' answer may cover it as unless the Revolution series is fully sanctioned, the UCI would see it no differently from a training run

The revolution series is an exhibition event not a proper competition so they would have Cav wearing what the crowd would want to see, a bit like the tour winner wearing yellow in the post tour crits.

Can he wear the jersey in the Olympic RR?

Maybe he is willing to pay a fine if imposed.

No you can't wear it during the Olympics.

So if I was a WC I would look for other legal options to display stripes such as on jersey collar/sleeve, shorts, gloves, bicycle, or water bottle (and I suspect some might opt for a tattoo).

This happens all the time in these exhibition track events.

Years ago, when Australia had a super worlds, I went to watch either they Sydney Cup or Clarence St Cup, and there were loads of the Aussies in their World Champions kits.

I think it's fine for an exhibition event. The organisers usually request it. Cav would be one of not many to wear the full road rainbows (unbroken rainbow) on the track :)

It's just a show event. Same as the post tour crits. If you wanna know how serious it is, just check the results and see who's on top...

It's an non-UCI event. Amazing how some people just can't resist a pop at certain riders.

It wasn't a pop at Cav, I really like the guy. It just seemed odd, but sadly I haven't seen a non-UCI track event since the Skol 6
