Why is Chris Carmichael Still involved in Cycling?

I believe the "Carmichael" system is a modern pop version of interval training and its extension, periodization, started in Eastern Europe/Germany in the 1930s. Carmichael's pop appeal was augmented by his affiliations with Lance Armstrong and it is a fiar question to ask why he is not implicated.

BTW, I was a follower of Joe Friel's "The Cyclist Training Bible." It was not so pop. What happened to Friel?

Because he still can do what he did back then: identify master's riders gullible enough to spend their income on common advice while imparting marginal value. It was a good business model then...

If pressed by USADA it would be fun for him to actually admit that "I know/do nothing!"

Carmichael was nothing but a smokescreen for Ferrari.

He gleefully pimped himself out for a fistful of dollars. All he had going for him as a coach was an unscrupulous personality that has never spoken publicly about the lawsuit he settled out of court with the riders from the US national team that he caused so much damage to with his "extract of cortisone" shots.

Such cynicism gets rewarded in this world of ours.

Why was his name missed off the USADA law suit, or shouldn't he have been banned before then!

He should be banned for what he did to the members of the national team. Unfortunately he was not caught at the time, and the statute of limitations has long since passed. Carmichael is a major scumbag.

But is there any evidence he was involved in the doping at Postal, Disco, and Astana? The most that can be said is that he was knowingly part of the facade to deceive the public. I think it comes down to him being part of the doping conspiracy but his part being fairly minor and his lying not being sanctionable under the WADA code.

1elstimo congrats on a sensational first post. Your links are compulsory reading for anyone interested in the background to Lance Armstrong's early doping, subsequent cancer, and the fact that this was not a one off.

It's been said before but worth reiterating to new forum readers. It is astounding that someone who likely induced his own cancer via drug taking has used the cancer research and awareness platform to further himself whilst having continued to abuse drugs throughout his career. The ultimate in cynicism and a slap in the face of society as a whole to allow this to continue.

I would not be surprised if Chris, Lance, etc will at one point start saying "Hey, if you were naive and blind enough to trust our thin storyline despite the fact out there, you simply deserved to be cheated".

Ouch! Hope you don't know anyone that paid for that golden kernel of knowledge.

Anyone remember when this pony boy was on OLN with Phil and Paul and Co, maybe 2000 or 01. "the man behind Lance" He was some sort of training analyst for the first few stages then gone. He was so lame they must have cut him I remember stuff he said like Lance hydrates more than other riders and can regulate core temp better and acted like cadence was he and LAs invention. His wind tunnel bike was faster because it was more aeroer than other riders and saddle height. blah blah

I mean ridiculous coachfergie type stuff

I see dudes with CTS jerseys still really

and for a while he was a front man for Nissan.

chris Comical. the original front for Pharmstrong

An update on Chris Carmichael claims. Lance is still protecting Carmichael telling this clever half-truth.

"As for Mr. Gorski, it is Armstrong's belief that he was aware of doping by the USPS team," Armstrong states. "Mr. Armstrong told Chris Carmichael in 1995 of his use of PEDs."

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...g-named-names-written-answers-doping/7532825/

Let's go back in time!!!

1990, Carmichael is doping USA Cycling team, Armstrong is a member:http://www.cbsnews.com/news/dope-and-glory-10-04-2001/

1992, Carmichael still "coaching" at USA Cycling, Lance still on National squad(??), transitions to Motorola. http://blog.performancebike.com/2010/07/09/flashback-friday-cover-model-lance/

I'm don't understand why he picks 1995 as a year he discussed doping with Comical. Maybe it was "Jim Ochowicz has us doing EPO at the Motorola. It's WAY better than the stuff you injected in me."

For whatever reason, it appears Lance is throwing Carmichael a bone and trying to protect him.

Given that Carmichael is well known to have doped Strock et al, the nuance is lost on me. Carmichael is a doping agent. Period.
