Grow up. Did you actually bother reading the article? Firstly it's mainly old news anyway and stuff that he had said before. He was hardly bigging himself up. He actually admitted that he was being too pompous last year. Ok so you don't like the bloke, that's fine...but is there really any need to start a pointless thread, bashing him for no good reason???

took about seven hours for this thread to appear. I'm quite surprised. its an extension from his stage 14 and 15 tour interviews. Its a learning experience for him. we shall see what happens next year.

He needs to make like Michael Vick? Yeah, that's what cycling needs.

Michael Vick: exceptionally talented athlete whose greatest crimes were the torture and slaughter of animals for profit and sport. Returns from jail and suspension to perform at a high level while saying nothing about his former deeds.

Bradley Wiggins: exceptionally talented athlete whose greatest crimes are placing fourth in the Tour de France, wearing an ascot and a bad haircut, and leaving his team for greener pastures. Returns in a new jersey, fails to repeat his TDF placement, but speaks candidly about his performance.

Looking at the lack of any discussions i thought i wasnt going to make any comments today but when i saw this i decided i had to break my fast, just to commend pedaling squares on the post.

My head was nodding for the entire 20 seconds it took to read it.

WOW! hostility to the man! I thought that he rode out of his skin in 2009 and just could not ride up to expectaions in 2010, he was not alone. The interview that I just read here was quite frank and no smoke blowing, he felt he underperformed and said that. So whats the problem?

Wiggo should really focus on something other than the Tour. He is never going to win it. I think his outlook on the Tour was that he would do one place better and eventually win the Tour in 2012, which is when he sais that by that time he wanted to win it.
It should really say something to him when someone who was working for him in the Tour placed higher than him on GC.

Well, it's not all about winning. It's about seeing how far you can push yourself. Refocusing on one week stage races for example would be giving up and is not really a goal you put your heart and soul into.

Also switching from the Tour to the Giro or Vuelta also doesn't make any sense mosr of the time since it's the Tour that has the biggest chance of having a route that suits him.

And what's with the stubborn misspelling of the subject's name? The article you cite even tells you, in the headline, how to properly spell Wiggins.

Didn't you read it?

The article is wrong. His proper name is now Wigans. He had his name changed at the end of the 2009 season.

So someone who became fourth in the TdF shouldn't be ambitious? Also, one bad year shows he will fail forever?

I'm not putting him higherst on the favorite list, but would I be shocked and amazed if he would win a GT? No. TT specialists won those things in the past.

The TT is still the decisive moment

Of course, this is well known considering we know the history of cycling.

It's a derogatory forum nickname given to him after this quote about the need to leave Garmin to be successful

"It's a bit like trying to win the Champions League and to win the Champions League you go to Manchester United and I'm probably playing at Wigan at the moment. I'll probably have to make that step to do it," Wiggins told the BBC.

My problem with Wiggins wasn't his performance at the Tour, but his trying to convince people via the press how perfect his preparation was. Like the interview that claimed he was leading a monastic lifestyle and hadn't touched alcohol in six months after multiple tweets the November before saying how hammered he was. I don't care if a guy drinks in November, I just hate people lying to cover up possible good or bad performances. For instance, a couple of recent tweets:

# Great night last night at the Sports Aid Ball, slightly jaded this morning and heading to the city! 2:39 AM Nov 26th via Twitter for BlackBerry®

My office for today is The Crown in Coivent Garden, Vodka-Tonics with every interview have taken there toll slightly, only 5 to go! 9:38 AM Nov 25th via Twitter for BlackBerry®

It might also explain some of the content. Various members of Sky have come forward recently admitting mistakes, including the idea that they could do things better than everyone else. Long before there was a team, I read the Brailsford quote saying that they would have a Tour de France win in five years. I thought at the time that it was one of the most arrogant things I had ever read, and an insult to talented riders and teams everywhere. Wiggins just got caught up in all that, like the fancy bus and having military analysts study the Tour route looking for advantages would get the job done.

I wish him and the team good luck for next year (the jury is still out, literally, on whether I'll follow the sport in 2011). But I think they'll see more success by following the best practices of other teams (like having someone drive stages in advance looking for a good place to attack) than by claiming to be smarter than everyone else. A lot of it comes down to how much guys are willing to hurt on the bike in training and races.

Speaking of guys with heads up bums, Schlecklet has already declared himself to be the favorite for the 2011 Tour de France. That saves the fans and media a lot of time evaluating everyone's form over the first half of the season.

Basso and Nibali didn't really win their GTs this year in the TT. Neither of them is an exceptionally great time trialist... although you can still lose a GT in the TT, as Rodriguez so effectively demonstrated.

If the interview was given just before the tour, then he could have been drinking in November and then stopped drinking for 6 months.
