Women’s ITT - World Championships 2024 (September 22)

Since the individual time trials were first included at the championships on Sicily 30 years ago, 18 different women have become elite world champion in the event, and a further two have clinched the U23 title in recent editions. Last year's race saw Chloé Dygert take her second victory, 3 years after her horrible accident during the Worlds in Imola, while her Canyon SRAM teammate Antonia Niedermaier was the fastest among the U23 riders. Both of them are back to defend their titles this weekend.

The biggest story is of course the absence of home favourite Marlen Reusser due to her long-lasting side effects from catching Covid earlier in the year.
Someone who unlike Reusser has had a lot of success in 2024 is Olympic champion Grace Brown, who will take part in her last championships before retirement.

Start time: 12:00. The event is expected to finish at 14:15

The women's time trial starts with a 3.1 km stretch from the town of Gossau to the outskirts of Mönchaltorf, where the route will join the men's for the remaining 26.8 km to the finish line at the Sechseläutenplatz in Zürich. This means the first climb will already start before the 5 km mark, and all the climbs are positioned inside the first 16 km.

We have an official startlist now, which confirms that the USA will have four riders in the race, due to them both having the World champion in Dygert and the Pan-American champion in Amber Neben. Kristen Faulkner is saving herself for the road race.

It's also worth nothing that 2019 Zwift Academy winner Jessica Pratt is now representing Malta.

Well Pratt certainly is a well travelled lady.

D+ is being wildly inaccurate with the sending times.
They're claiming it's from 9:50 to 11:45...

Aaah, it's the para-disciplines. Just got confused because it describes what categories for the other scheduled programmings, but here it just said "women".
Also, neither of the elite races appear to be on D+, not that I mind, gonna watch it on TV2 anyway, but surely they'll show it on D+ as well.

Sadly they only broadcast the men's ITT on TV2 Sport, so I'll have to watch it with Swedish or Norwegian commentary instead, but I don't mind it that much.

Let's take a look at the negative start list, i.e. riders who could possibly have done well today, but who for different reasons haven't been selected (some of them will be racing later in the championships):

Elite: Marlen Reusser, Riejanne Markus, Lieke Nooijen (I would have loved to see her go up against the best TTers, but the Dutch team is simply too stacked at the moment), Kristen Faulkner, Elisa Longo Borghini, Mischa Bredewold, Audrey Cordon-Ragot

U23: Shirin van Anrooij, Maëva Squiban, Isabella Holmgren (I don't know why her sister has been selected for the mixed relay and RR, but she hasn't. Maybe she's in more need of some rest at the moment), Marion Bunel, Puck Pieterse, Fem van Empel, Ella Wyllie

Sarah Storey completed the course in 45:25 to win the gold medal in the C5 category. We'll see how that'll stack up against the worst riders here.

BTW, this is an outrage! I get back from getting my laundry, log on, find the stream, and the first thing I see is Reedtz giving Schmidt some chocolate!
I want chocolate...

Clearly you should have done your laundry in Switzerland. But here, have some chocolate 🍫
