Womens cycling maybe losing another team

I hope Sky do - after the success of the women on the track, I'd say there's definitely an appetite for women's road cycling. What baffles me about the Sky project is why they don't pick up some cycling coverage to promote their investment in the team.

I think Sky might after the olympics. However they could maybe start floating ideas as of the start of next year in my view.

Starting a British team and not including a British Olympic champion will invite questions. So it's best to wait until she's no longer champion.

(Maybe. Just speculation)

GreenEdge are brining in a team for next year and Honda are starting a team next year with Rochelle Gilmore and Nicole Cooke. Both will be quality teams.

The men's teams have enough of a problem finding sponsorship to keep themselves from going tits up.

exactly and who the hell cares about woman cycling anyway. there's a reason it's not on tv and that's because it sucks

The sponsors aren't interested because the public aren't interested.
There is no point in appealing to groups like Sky to flush their money down the toilet.
Cycling sponsorship is not a charity.
The sponsors want people to buy their products.
That's the only reason they get involved.
And that's not going to happen while women's cycling has such limited appeal.

What surprises me is that there are no retired (from racing) women who know these issues and return to cycling as a DS/Manager/Figure-Head to champion their issues.

Instead cycling must do it for them! Hence the current state their in now.

We all know how Stapleton emphasized on having a woman's team during his reign but who else?

For once I actually agree with Ryo.

There's an awful lot of men's cycling that utterly sucks on the TV though. I mean, in a meritocracy, there's no way the Tour of Beijing, Eneco Tour, Vattenfall Cyclassics, Scheldeprijs or, on 2011 evidence, Paris-Nice, Catalunya or the World Championships, deserve TV time, and certainly a number of stages of bigger races were complete wastes of everybody's time.

Quality of racing is not the decisive factor. Quality of coverage and the lack of depth in the women's péloton, and the lack of money and fans making it look decidedly amateurish and preventing them from being able to use more interesting routes that would create better racing, are more problematic than the quality of the racing. The lack of money and coverage is a chicken-and-egg thing. Spectators are turned off by the lack of interesting race courses and amateurish coverage, and the dull parcours and lack of quality coverage discourages spectators.
