DISCLAIMER:
This is a deliberately lazy thread. I just couldn't figure out where else to discuss this race; half in the Lesser Known Men's Race thread, and half in the Lesser Known Women's Race thread just seemed... strange...

Probably one of the stranger recent inventions by the UCI: First three men, followed by three women, with the times being combined.

On one hand this is obviously a completely pointless event and they should rather bring the TTT world championship back where riders were participating with their team.

Having said this, these gimmick events always lead to funny situations, just checked the startlist and Italy are starting Realini. A 40kg feather in a TTT, hilarious stuff.

At least a few teams with good line ups, Switzerland, Australia, Germany. Even with Realini Italy might be the favorites.

Not sure about it. I mean the men are clearly on a different level compared to any other team but riding with Realini significantly lowers the advantage of being on the wheel for ELB and Paladin (who are not the best TTers among the women anyway). Realini can produce some decent ITT performances but makes no sense in such an event.

A suggestion I've heard is that it should simply be two separate events; one for the men, one for the women, but still with national teams.
I suppose maybe with four riders on each team, rather than just three.

The French team is the most balanced one on paper, but question is if they'll be to far behind Italy after the men have finished.

This is probably the toughest course we've seen for this kind of TTT so far, so I don't think normal (T)TT standards apply as much. It can make sense to line up climbers.

I suspect a few teams have selected the wrong mix of riders. For example Switzerland needed to include Schmid or Kung or both. Another example is Australia had to include Gigante instead of Roseman-gannon.

Haidari went into a fence.
Lucky for him, it was not a barbed wire fence.

There have been multiple overtakes in the men's part, which would surely mean that the starting over of the women is gonna get messed up...

Yes, let's bring back the 100k national TTT.
Better today than tomorrow :)

Naaah, a more reasonable length is just fine.
Cannot find a more reasonable and delightful lenght than 100k. Where the 4th man is the counting rider.

Sorry, can't help myself :)

The pleasure of observing the very small details of cracks in the symbiosis, and thereby witnessing how extreme this challenge really is, is irreplaceable once you have gotten it under your skin back in the day.

so, did the Cycling Centre Women start too early or too late? There was no one to be seen when the men finished, but their time is pretty good.

I don't know whether you misinterpret my response.
I'm referring to the Men's 100k road TTT for national squads of 4 riders, last rider's time counting.

It surely existed, AFAIR from the 50ies right up to the early 90ies.

My memory lacks whether Stuttgart or Agrigiento was last event, but myself had the pleasure to watch several of those venues for more than a decade, before the event sadfully was deceased...

I guess Realini will pace the climbs and the others the flat? But you already have a puncher like Paladin for that, so anyone with a brain would bring Guazzini. Our local girl Pirrone would be another decent TTer who can get over a few short hills.

Yeah, very weird selection that reeks of federation politics. That said, it's a very atypical, really hilly TTT, so who knows what will happen.

And Cattaneo in his current shape would have finished top 10, maybe even top 5 in the men's ITT on that course.
