Looking forward to what the spanish squad is capable off, Libertine has said nice words about Castrillo and Samitier and Carretero has only ridden in support so far. Cortina has good chances on this route I reckon.

I think this will be a great race, but unfortunately won't be able to watch the thing..

I unfortunately don't have a lot of knowledge of U23 racing but I'm always looking forward to the U23 WC RR, because the racing is often great and because it gives you a good impression of how the elite race will be. I really want to see this course in action.

I have to mention Casper Pedersen as a dangerous outsider. He is in the form of his life and he is a really, really strong roleur as he showed in the Euros and recently in Post Danmark Rundt. He is fast but not fast enough to win a bunch sprint and although he can get over some hills fairly well he is in no ways an expert uphill so naturally he is not a top favourite on this parcours. However he is part of a strong Danish team that will likely be on the offense for most of the race and if the weather is bad, he has a great chance for a top result.

I have a feeling that Riabushenko will be terribly strong and I hope he will ride an aggressive race.

What time are they riding?

Terrible weather, and I think the course is tougher than on paper, but we'll see.
The climb is actually more like 1km+1false flat and then the climb. It will drain them over the unusually long distance and especially in those conditions.
Pedersen, Tiller, Skaarseth those kind of strong power guys that can handle the distance and motor from the top to the finish I think will be successful and also the climber/TTer types (Kamna, Sivakov, McNulty etc).
The Norwegians have a lot of faith in Halvorsen, but normally this should be too though. Holding it together from the top in the last laps will be extremely difficult, so doing the finale in sprinter mode I highly doubt will give any rewards in form of medals.

Tough to top 1998.

So many Cycling Manager wonders in there, the times that Popovych, Grabovski, Dekker, Duarte and Sicard would grow to absolute world beating dominators in my career modes..

Found a race preview: https://u23cyclingzone.wordpress.com/2017/09/21/2017-u23-world-championships-road-race-preview/

The site put their favourites as:

3*: Halvorsen, Jakobsen, Philipsen
2*: Hodeg, Banaszek, Lecroq
1*: Affini, Riabushenko, Thomas, a Dane (Asgreen/Pedersen/Bjerg)

They seem to be heavily favouring a sprint, I've seen rain forecasted all afternoon so not so sure that will happen if the rain falls...
Why did they pick Affini as top Italian? Seems to me he's the one to work first.

They will definitely ride for Albanese, who, to me, is the top favourite. Even though he had a very bad season at Bardiani. But then again, who didn't?

Still a lot of rain predicted for this afternoon? Won't be a bunch sprint then, giving more chances for stronger guys. There are a couple of pros, which must be favorites, but Riabushenko would be my top pick.

I'd go for Riabushenko as well if Albanese doesn't make it. I am watching the Women's Junior race at the moment and it's raining. Could be an awesome race. U23-race is usually better than the pro borefest anyway.
